7B: PROCAR BMW M1 CARS
7B.1. GENERAL
DESCRIPTION
DEFINITION -
PROCAR BMW M1 cars (Group 4) are always a 1/24th copy of a race car
having been seen in competition from 1979 to 1980 at the BMW PROCAR Series.
They are used for the Franco Gianotti Trophy and the Model Car Production
Worlds. Organiser of the Gianotti Trophy decides upon which race cars of which
year will be ALLOWED at the start. It will always be cars having raced together
the same year in the same type of event. 7B.2. WEIGHT, DIMENSIONS & GROUND CLEARANCE
(1) WEIGHT -
(i) The overall weight of a car (complete assembled and race
ready) must be min. 200 gram. Adding ballast on an area below 10mm of the bottom line of the body is
NOT ALLOWED. (ii) Dimensions and weights can be checked by the race directors
at any time. By incorrect results the concerned team has to arrange always under
racing time immediately all the needed change(s) to make the car legal again.
(2) CORRECTIONS ON BODY WEIGHT - If the complete assembled body including all body mounting
parts did not reach the minimum weight, additional ballast (lead weight) has to be added at the inside of the
body. These additional weight must be placed under both door windows in an area of 10mm above of the bottom
line of the door panels. (3) DIMENSIONS AND SPUR - (i)
At no point a car, standing on the track, may be wider than 83.2mm and
never be lower than 5.2mm. (ii) The maximum spur width of the front axle assembly is
81mm (always measured from the outside of one wheel to the outside of the other wheel)
and 83mm for the rear axle. (4) GROUND CLEARANCE - (i) The minimum ground clearance between the underside of the
complete and ready build car and the track during the qualification and at the start must be min.
1.0mm (with the car standing still on a flat surface and measured between the rear axle and the end of the
chassis). During the race the minimum ground clearance between the underside of a complete
chassis (that means including the mounting screws, spur gear plus body holders) and the track must be
min. 0.4mm (measured with mounted body on a flat surface). After the race the minimum ground clearance
at the rear end must be min. 0.4mm (with the car standing still on a flat surface and measured between
the rear axle and the end of the chassis) with all other parts not touching on the track surface.
(ii) During and after the race the body and plastic parts of the
body are ALLOWED to be lower as the minimum ground clearance of 0.4mm, as long as the plastic is not touching on
the track surface (control is done with still standing car on a flat surface). |

PLAFIT CHASSIS (1) MAKE AND TYPE - Only the Plafit
SUPER Expert 24 Plus Chassis (the famous Plafit SLP chassis) as supplied
under Ref.-No.: PF.1700KSLP is ALLOWED to
use. All chassis parts (except ALLOWED optional parts) could be replaced only by
the same original spare parts. A mix of parts including chassis parts from
other chassis types or made in different materials is NOT ALLOWED. All chassis
mounting parts like screws (in the case of screws the longest useable
cone head screw can not extend a max. length of 10mm), washers,
nuts, spacers including axle spacers are FREE to choose as long as
these parts are unmodified (for example the thickness of screw heads is NOT
ALLOWED to be reduced) standard equipment available from the Plafit
range.
(2) CHASSIS PARTS - All chassis parts (guide holder, front- and rear axle
mounts, motor mount bracket, chassis main plate included) plus all body mounting
parts (including H-subframe and mounting plates) must be used in standard
shape as produced by the manufacturer and have to be mounted together in
standard form at their original fixing points. The use of spacers etc. between
the front or rear axle holders and the chassis mountings is NOT ALLOWED.
Beside the legal modifications (see art. 7B.3.3) all changes on the chassis (as
soldering, drilling or cutting etc.) are NOT ALLOWED in all forms and kind of
variations. The use of legal optional parts is FREE of choose. (3) ALLOWED
CHASSIS MODIFICATIONS - Beside the original spare parts the following
optional and tuning parts (Ref.-No. given in caps) are ALLOWED to use without
additional modifications:
(i) BALLAST - Additional trim ballast is only ALLOWED in form
of lead weight which has to be mounted on top of the chassis (including the top
of the ground plate and H-subframe plate). All lead weight must be fixed in
the way that no weight is extending outside the given shape of the chassis and
have to be invisible from underside view.
(ii) SUSPENSION SPRINGS - Chassis Suspension Springs are ALLOWED
to use. The springs can be used in soft, medium or hard tension (PF.1320,
PF.1320A, PF.1320B). (iii)
H-PLATE BODY MOUNT - The body mount subframe (H-plate) must be or unmodified
original shape or may be replaced by the 49mm (PF.1710),
55mm (PF.1710B) or 61mm (PF.1710C)
body mount subframe, all or not in adjustable (res.
PF.1710T, PF.1710BT,PF.1710CT)
form. The subframe can be fixed flexible or inflexible (rigid) on the main
plate.
(iv) PAIR OF BODY HOLDER PLATES - Original pair of body
holders may be replaced 6mm (PF.1707B), 7mm
(PF.1707C) or 9mm (PF.1707E)
pair of body holder plates. There is always a single holder per side, but the
same type must be used on both sides. The body holders can be formed when
obligatory needed to mount the body on the chassis.
Only the necessary fixing parts are ALLOWED to be used in combination
with the body holders. The mount plates plus holders must be fixed on top of the
subframe as standard equipped. The use of spacers between the mount
plates and subframe is ALLOWED. Pair of body holder
distances PF.1707B2 is ALLOWED.
(v) FRONT AXLE HOLDERS - The original front axle holders
may be replaced by the 5.5mm high (PF.1704) or 6.5 mm high
(PF.1704B) front axle holders. Use of 3.5mm
front axle holder PF.3304 is ALLOWED. For lowering
the front chassis one can use part PF.3304E2.
(vi) GUIDE HOLDER - The original guide holder may be replaced by
part PF.1703. Genuine guide holders can be
formed by bending. The guide but only one guide per car including
fixing nut, washers, braids plus additional mounting clips
(for solder on the motor wires) and motor lead wires are FREE to choose.
Contact fluids to add on braids (for example MURA Tiger Milk, SLICK 7
Voodoo) are ALLOWED for use.

is ALLOWED. Motor will always be handout and tagged by
the race direction. The motor wires are FREE to choose. The wires also can be
optionally guided by an additional loop behind the front axle.
Lubrication/oiling of the motor is ALLOWED. The motor has to be kept
absolutely standard. Any modification on the motor including the can (to
sandpaper etc.) is NOT ALLOWED. To open the motor is strictly FORBIDDEN. Already
little marks showing a possible opening or modification will automatically
result in DISQUALIFICATION. (ii) POWER - The supplied power range is
rating (depending to tracks conditions) between 14 and 14.6 volts. The
exactly driven voltage must be announced by the race directors before the first
free practise. After the said voltage is fixed and has to be carried on without
a change for the complete race event. (iii) FIXATION - Motor must be fixed by screw(s) only. Additional motor fixing by glue or soldering is
FORBIDDEN. (2) GEAR AND
PINION
(i) SPUR GEAR - Only SIGMA or SCALEAUTO
spur gears are ALLOWED to use on rear axle. The amount of teeth is FREE
to choose. The gear has to be kept standard (optionally the plastic ring can be

Rear tyres are always SIGMA Black Magic (SG.8837)
16mm width with 16.5mm inner diameter and
27mm high. They may be lowered to 24.5mm being the
minimum diameter for the rear wheels. The rear wheels must carry
their correct original markings during the complete race event on sanction of
DISQUALIFICATION.
Racers using their own BMW M1 (not he handout car)
must warn the organiser by mail, at least 45 days before the race, that they
wish to drive their own car (at even rounds), so that organiser can prepare the
rear tyres which must be fixed under the eyes of an officia.l
(3) AXLES -
Only 3mm
diameter steel axles, never wider than 80mm are ALLOWED. (4)
BEARINGS - Only genuine SIGMA ball bearings (SG.8261) are ALLOWED for

is allowed. Any other model car kit of the BMW M1 PROCAR is NOT ALLOWED. Only original windows
may be used (no lexan versions). All parts to make the exterior body, as found
in the kit, must be used. Laminated bodies are NOT allowed. Dremeling out of the
smallest part of the body is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. Racers found with a dremeled
out body will be disqualified for the complete meeting.
(2) BODY EXTERIOR -
Bodies must be equipped with: (i)
a windshield,
(ii) side and rear window, (iii) exhaust pipes, (iv)
front splitter, (v) rear diffuser (vi) rear spoiler, (vii) rear view
mirrors, (viii) windshield wiper. Mirrors and
rear spoiler may be mounted on a FREE to choose flexible material. Rear spoiler,
however, must always be in horizontal position, otherwise the race direction can
oblige the car to make a pit stop to adjust the spoiler.
(3) BODY INTERIOR
-
Interior must contain at least following
3-dimensional items : (i) dashboard, (ii) steering wheel, (iii)
gear change lever, (iv) painted fire extinguisher, (v) seat, (vi)

done only by glue using the standard mounting rubber (PF.1212 or SIGMA SG.8214)
or optionally directly (without rubber) on the mountings. Glue fixing is only
possible on the given area of the body mounts surface. Adding or gluing
ballast into the mountings is NOT ALLOWED. (5) BODY REINFORCEMENTS - Body
reinforcements are possible but must be always fixed in a distance of min. 10mm
over the bottom line of the body. Reinforcements placed lower as 10mm over the
bottom line can only be done by using standard mounting rubber (PF.1212 or SIGMA
SG.8214) in combination with flexible mounting glue.
A flexible mounting glue (for example HENKEL Pattex oder PLAFIT Magic
Glue) is a glue wich can be pierced by a pin and wich also reacts as
material disconnecting by the use of cleaning-/lighter fluids (for example
ESSO 'Tiger').
(6) RACE
NUMBERS - Cars must be equipped with the correct racing
numbers, applied in the same form and on the same place as on the original race
