20th Model Car World Championship

  July 20-24, 2008 - HERENTALS
The 20th IMCA Nats will be organised in 2008 at Herentals (next to Antwerp) during the week before the famous Spa 24 hour race. All racing will go on the new Steve Ogilvie MTT wooden 8-laner. [The 2007 race location at Zaal "De Posthoorn" is no longer free.]  There will be 6 qualification rounds of 8 x 3' for Ferrari model cars counting for the Franco Gianotti Trophy. All model car races will be contested with 56 1/24th Fujimi Ferraris F430 Challenge cars split in 3 groups:  24 Experts for the Trofeo Pirelli, 16 Amateurs for the Coppa Shell and 16 Kids for the Motorola N-America Series. The 20 best ranked Experts after the 6 qualification rounds in the Trofeo Pirelli, the 10 best Amateurs in the Coppa Shell and the 10 best Kids of the Motorola N-America Series will be qualified for the 20th Model Car 124 Worlds. So 40 of the 56 entrants in total. [The 16 best Kids and 8 best Amateurs after the 6 qualification rounds will be qualified for the 11th Mello Yello Junior & Amateur Worlds. The 24 first at the 20th Model Car Worlds will be qualified to contest the 4th Model Car 132 Worlds on Tuesday evening] Entry fee for the Ferrari sprint races (where all entrants will race during minimum 2h30 and maximum 4h00) is € 125.00. The Ferrari Model car races will be contested from Sunday July 20 thru Tuesday noon. Without prepayment of at least € 100.00 entry fee per racer by April 30, 2008 no racer will be allowed to enter the 2008 IMCA Worlds (click here).

From Wednesday afternoon until the night from Thursday afternoon follows the 2nd Endurance World Championship with 16 FIA GT cars (8 GT1 and 8 GT2) being 1/24th copies of the cars having been seen at the 2008 FIA GT Championship. There are three racers per car, doing at least 8 of the 24 stints. Entry fee for the Endurance Worlds is €50.00 per racer. The winners in GT1 and in GT2 were supposed to receive a free entrance ticket for the Publiaplic pagoda at the Spa 24 hours, but after the RACB decided ton reserve their own VIP pagoda exclusively for nobles, and after they gave no more licence for pagoda to Publiaplic, those prices are cancelled and replaced by € 150 cash per winner (both in GT1 and in GT2).

Race location is at Nieuwstraat 31 B-2200 Herentals.  As hotels we recommend Hotel "De Zalm", Hotel "De Swaen" and Hotel "Aldhem". The two first named hotels are at walking distance from the racing premises; the last named is only for racers coming by car. Racers have to do the reservations themselves. More....  Additional info by mailing to jppro@pandora.be or phoning to number + 32 498 11 57 82.
This will be the very last IMCA Nats organised by JPVR.
The 2009 Worlds will be organised in Toronto (CDN) by Mark Campbell from July 27 thru July 31, 2009.

PART 1; THE FERRARI SPRINT RACES & THE 20tht MODEL CAR WORLDS
l THE 6 QUALIFICATION ROUNDS -
Races of 8 x 3'. Order of the heats in each group [Trofeo Pirelli, Coppa Shell, Motorola N-America] depends upon the IOC ranking on January 1, 2008. Top-3 finishers in each group  have to add 15, 10 and 5 grams of ballast for the following round. Adding of ballast is done by the race direction. Ballast may only be removed if no more finishing in the top-3.   There are separate rankings for the 3 groups of cars.
l 20th BENELUX CUP - One makes the overall ranking for the three groups at Qualification round #5. That ranking will be the final one for the traditional Benelux Cup.
l 16th IMCA EURONATS - One makes the overall ranking for the three groups at Qualification round #6. That ranking will be the final one for the traditional Benelux Cup. Contrarily to previous years there will be only ONE European Champion Sprint Racing in 2008.
l
5th FRANCO GIANOTTI TROPHY -  Based upon the result of the 6 qualification rounds. In each group the top 15 win res. 30, 25, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point(s) per round. No points are attributed to cars having achieved less than 50 per cent of the distance achieved by the winner of each group.
l 20th MODEL CAR 124 WORLDS - Selected are: (1) The 20 first ranked out of 24 at the Trofeo Pirelli; (2) the 10 first ranked out of 16 at the Coppa Shell; (3) the 10 first ranked out of 16 at the Motorola N-America Series. That makes 40 entrants in total. 8 best IOC-ranked racers go directly to Semis. Four Quarters of 8 x 3' with the 8 best overall making the move to the two 8 x 4' Semis.  The 8 best overall at the Semis go to the 8 x 5' Main Final.  Winner is the 2008 World Champion Model Car 124 Racing (the 20th in slot-racing history).
l 11th MELLO YELLO JUNIORS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - Selected are: The 16 kids are allowed to contest the 11th Mello Yello Juniors World Championship.l They contest two 8 x 3' Heats with a final ranking on contested laps. Eight best ranked at the six Motorola N-America warm-up races start in the second heat, eight last in the first heat. Winner is the 2008 Mello Yello Juniors World Champion (the 11th in history).
l 5th MELLO YELLO AMATEURS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - Selected are: the eight best ranked amateurs at the Coppa Shell. They contest a 8 x 3' Main Final. First ranked Winner is the 2008 Mello Yello Amateurs World Champion (the fifth in history).
l 4th MODEL CAR 132 WORLDS - Selected are: the racers having finished at the 24 first places of the 20th IMCA Model Car 124 Worlds. No show is equal to the elimination for the rest of the meeting. The 24 selected racers choose randomly one of the twenty-four NSR Mosler cars, starting with the 24th and finishing by the first. Cars go immediately from the box to the track. They contest a race with three heats of 8 x 5'.  Winner is the 2008 World Champion Model Car 132 Racing (the fourth in slot-racing history).

PART 2; THE ENDURANCE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

d WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ENDURANCE - always 3 racers per car -  first and second racer do 3 stints per section of 8segments, third racer 2 stints - 1 obliged tyre change - lights obliged - technical rules sub art. 7 of the IMCA Rule Book.
l TYRE & MOTOR HANDOUT: 1 pair of rear tyres before the start. Handout is done in a technical zone, under the eyes of the race direction, with 8 racers on a row where they have 30 minutes to fix the tyres and the motor. Each team uses its own soldering iron. . Once fixed the cars enter the enclosed zone. If not finished after 30 minutes racers can continue only during racing time. Second pair of rear tyres available at the rac e direction if first pair came back shortly after mid-race.
l MOTOR HANDOUT: One marked motor at the start of the event for free. It will be the ProSlot Euro Competition with a balanced armature and ball bearings. At the end of all racing motors should come back at a € 50 sanction. Racers are allowed to buy a second (marked) motor (only once) at the price of € 35.00 [Chris Radisich Clause]. Only ONE motor may be used during the whole race!
l TECH CONTROLS: Pre-race Technical controls are done by the race directors. Ground clearance starting the race is 1.2 mm and may never be lower than 0.4mm on a sanction of a loss of 10 per cent of the achieved laps since the previous control.

§ 1. THE FERRARI SPRINT RACES

Ferrari sells since 1993 race versions (not allowed in the streets) of its most popular car.  Initially it was the F355 Challenge , later the F360 Challenge, since 2006 the F430 Challenge. Yearly a competition over six meetings, with two races per meeting (thus 12 races in total), is organised in Europe (sponsored by Black & Decker, res. the Trofeo Pirelli for pros and the Coppa Shell for amateurs), in North-America (sponsored by Motorola) and in Italy (sponsored by Kimbo Caffè). At the end of those 12 races all cars come together for the Worlds Final (the Mundiali Finali). Of the several Challenge series the most important are (1) the Black & Decker Trofeo Pirelli Europe, (2) the Coppa Shell and (3) the Motorola North-America Series.
In 2008 IMCA will organise a model car version of the Ferrari Challenge with six qualification races, followed by the 20th IMCA Model Car World Championship. In total 64 racers from 21 countries and the 5 continents are invited. They'll be split in three groups: (1) The Trofeo Pirelli group for 24 experts; (2) the Coppa Shell group for 24 amateurs; and (3) the Motorola N-America series for 16 kids..
In each of those groups the 15 first, at each of the six qualification rounds, win res. 30, 25, 20, 18, 16,14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point(s), just as in the 1/1 Challenges. Those qualification rounds will decide upon the 40 racers going to the 20th Model Car Worlds and upon the 8 amateurs and 8 kids going to the Mello Yello.
Indeed, the 16 best ranked experts at the six rounds of the Trofeo Pirelli, the 12 best ranked amateurs at the Coppa Shell and the 12 best kids at the Motorola N-America series can start at the 20th IMCA Worlds. The 8 best ranked kids start also at the Mello Yello for Kids, the 8 best amateurs at the Mello Yello for amateurs.
We'll race a 1/24th Ferrari Challenge F430 as manufactured by Fujimi. Technical rules can be found under the new article 6 of the IMCA Rule Book. IMCA negotiated with success (and still negotiates) with the drivers of F430 race cars to sponsor the slot-racing event. For 2008 we try to bring the best slot-racers on earth together for a unique event.

§ 2. ENDURANCE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP More...

March 31, 2008 - After a dozen of irresponsible racers made us loosing € 6,500 sponsorship - since we could not materialise having 24 FIA GT cars at the start of the second round of the EEC 2008 - we were enforced to modify the format of the 2008 Endurance World Championship. Number of cars will be restricted from 24 to 16, but number of racers will be increased from two per car to three racers per car. Raced cars will be no longer 2007 FIA GT cars, but 2008 FIA GT cars. All GT2 racers will receive for free a RTR body, incl. the correct decals. In GT1 the drivers from Slovakia, the A.C.R. racers and the team of Tim Tyler (AU)/Fred Hood (USA) and Chris Radisich (NZ) will receive for free an RTR body, incl. the decals.
The winners in GT1 and the winners in GT2 (thus 6 racers in total) will receive € 150 cash. There is no longer a possibility to offer them a free entrance ticket to follow the Spa 24 hours from the Publiaplic pagoda, as the RACB (Belgian Autosport Federation) decided at the very last moment to give no longer a licence to Publiaplic and to run the pagoda themselves ... at a price being three times higher than what Publiaplic was asking for the tickets.
The Endurance Worlds go over twice a full 12 hours of racing (24 x 30' with 1' for rotation, and twice a first day section, a night section and a second day section). Professional drivers will be together on the GT1 cars, whilst all amateurs and semi-pros will be found with the GT2 cars. The rules remain the same as for the EEC 2008 with one exception, nl. that drivers of the two Vitaphone Maseratis MC12 and of the PK Carsport Saleen S7R will be obliged to use  a 0.6 Volt restrictor. Tamar's empirical weight calculatior is abolished and replaced by a more efficient principle explained in the IMCA Rule Book under art. 7.2.1.a and 7.2.1.b. Control will be done by the technical staff of the race direction, with NO RACERS allowed in the race director's stand. The famous ProSlot PS4000-IMCA will be maintained as handout motor at the
2nd ENDURANCE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, but now in sealed form and with the pinion already soldered to the shaft We already received all the motors with a tech sheet per motor, proving that they are very equal.
THE QUALIFICATIONS go over 8 x 3 minutes - thus on all 8 the lines - where only the best time per car over the 8 runs is maintained (EEC 2008 system). Best qualifier in each class (GT1 or GT2) can choose as first the lane on which he wants to start the race; last qualifier per class will have to start the race on the lonely lane left free after the seven others made already their choice.

OBLIGED TYRE CHANGE - At first segment following mid-race changing rear tyres for fresh ones is obliged on a sanction of 20 laps.  Any attempt to improve the road holding by forbidden tyre dressing will result in the exclusion of the car.
THE PRESIDENT'S CUP, as initially scheduled,  is no longer on the program.
WHO WILL BE THE 2008 WORLD CHAMPION ENDURANCE RACING? The winners of the race will be 2008 Endurance  world champion.

SCRUTINEERING & TECHNICAL CONTROL - Contrarily to the rounds of the 2008 EEC, where Tamar Nelwan & Cie do all technical control, despite the fact that they are racers themselves, it's excluded that such can happen at a world championship. Technical control and scrutineering will be done by IMCA officials being no racers. Probably that will be Daniel Rasseneur, Raymond van Campenhout and Jean-Marie Tillen.
HANDOUT FIA GT CARS? Except for the #2 Vitaphone Maserati MC12 (being rented from Nick de Wachter) there will be no IMCA handout cars at the start.
HANDOUT OF MOTOR & TYRES - Each team receives before the start two pairs of tyres and one motor. Use of another motor or other tyres than the handouts will result in disqualification. Motor is the ProSlot PS4000-IMCA with balanced armature and ball bearings. After the race ALL motors have to come back.
