IMCA Nations Cup 2002 (Ostend, August 29-September 1)
WORLDS: 1.KOREC, 2.POLEDNA, 3.NOVIELLO

Sunday 7.15 p.m. The combat is over. One splendid Noviello was not enough against four perfect Czech racers, respecting above all the team spirit. During 35 minutes of the 40 the Italian was setting the pace with Josef Korec and Frankie Poledna as first hunters. Then came the last segment on the difficult lane 1 where you need acceleration. Noviello, the intellectual, the man who teaches informatics, the man who thinks at the smallest details, he made one terrible mistake: when he changed his car from body he forgot to change the 43T spur gear for a 42T with faster acceleration. In his combat against four Czech devils nobody could help him to undo that mistake. Bit by bit he saw how the carrian vultures came nearer and nearer. Eventually he had to let pass Josef Korec, the man who won the two previous model car races and was on his way to a third consecutive win in two days. Poledna followed him as his shadow and gave poor Noviello the death-blow when he passed the Italian at the real final stages of the race. Here the podium with f.l.t.r. Noviello, triple winner Korec and his runner-up Poledna. In the IOC-ranking Korec goes from 12 to 6, Poledna from 30 to 16, Noviello from 35 to 25. Pic: Stéphane Martin.
