It's 6 p.m. on Sunday when the start of the main final at the IMCA Worlds is given. Defending world champion Noviello (35) goes immediately out at the lead. With all four Czech entrants qualified of the main, the four remaining places went to Belgium (two racers) and Italy (two racers). Those nations, actually, dominate international model car racing. The finalists are f.l.t.r. Frankie Poledna (CZ, 30), Geert Mertens (B, 43), Vladimir Horky (CZ, 1), Jan Korec (CZ, 179), Daniele Malangone (I, 205), Salvatore Noviello (I, 35), Josef Korec (CZ, 12) and "Piki" van Rossem (B, 32). Watching at the racers's stand are Niels Jeral (613), Hugo Dekker and at the right side Antonio Texeira. Eventually, after a gruelling combat with Noviello, holding on until the last minute, and after pretty close racing, Josef Korec will win, ahead of Poledna, Noviello and "Piki". The 2000 Model Car World Champ Mertens will finish 5th, Horky 6th, Jan Korec (surprisingly strong, the whole week-end) 7th and Malangone 8th. There were no less than five world champions of previous years at the start. Pic: Stéphane Martin. |
