Before the Old-Timer World Cup, the EuroNats and the IMCA Worlds, there is a handout of tires which must be mounted under the eyes of the race direction immediately before the cars enter the enclosed zone. Mounting their tires are Giuseppe Rudilosso (I), Cédric Gridelet (B), Einari Fyhr (SF), and Vladimir Horky (CZ) on the first row, Lasse Äberg (S) and Jan Korec (CZ) on the second row. Watching Lasse are the 2002 wanboffer Anders Gustafson (S), Stefan Törnfeldt (S) and Robert van Hoornaar (NL). Close to Rudilosso we remark Geert Mertens (B), Andy Brown-Searle (GB), Chris Radisich (NZ) and Paul Kassens (USA). At the background we see among others Joel Mallary (AU), Kieran Dale (NZ) and Matt Zenovitch (USA). George Kimber noted some critical remarks on the tire handout: "It is not wise to trust on the accuracy of seventy pairs of tyres packed like sardines on a trip from Spain." And sir George, he sees right. The quality of the Scaleauto tires is doubtfull, they are far from perfectly round and they change width and height from month to month. Since tires are extremely important in attempts of racing under equal conditions a deal has been made with NSR which will produce starting next year 2,000 pairs of special model car tires, perfectly rounded with a tire machine. Another improvement was an idea of Chris Radisich who had really bad luck at the handout of his motor at the EuroNats. The IMCA president proposes that any racer who wants to do so can buy at own costs before each race a second motor, perfecly similar to the handouts and equally tagged. That's a good way to keep the (already high) entry fees in hand. Pic: Stéphane Martin. |
