Last year Holland won surprisingly the Nations Cup (with a much weaker team than this year). But already at the Old-Timer Race things started going wrong for the Dutch team. After a sleepless night in the Ostend pubs, 2001 Mello Yello Junior World Champ Dennis Vogel, lacked the necessary fitness to help the first Dutch team to win the race they never should have lost. After some sharp remarks from team coach John van Hoornaar, Dennis ...decided to go back to Holland, even without defending his title at the Mello Yello. Due to the IMCA stand rules Dennis will be excluded from the Dutch team next year, since the rules say: "An IMCA world champion, refusing to defend his title, will be excluded from the World Cup during one complete year". The trio Arthur de Kok/John van Hoornaar/Dennis Vogel finished third, despite a sleeping third racer: a performance. At the prize giving ceremonial capricious Dennis Vogel was always absent. So Hugo Dekker, last year's Modeler's World Champion (right), received his price. Pic: Bob Demeyer. |
