IMCA Nations Cup 2002 (Ostend, August 29-September 1)
FOUR FASTEST OPEN GROUP 12 CARS

In 1989, at the Chigaco Nations Cup, the I.M.C.A. organised the first Scale Racing Worlds for ES/24 cars with Italy's Alberto Capri as winner. In 1991 the USRA organised at Sint-Maarten a poorly attended second version, won by "Gugu" ahead of Fred Hood. In 1992 the U.E.S. (Union Européen du Slot) organised the third Scale Racing Worlds, won by New Zealand's Dave Gick. Up from 1993 the ISRA (successor of the U.E.S.) organises with yearly increasing success the Scale Racing Worlds. At those ISRA meetings, however, there are no races for Open G-12 cars. That made the I.M.C.A. deciding that a G-12 race should be added to the yearly Nations Cup. 2002 was the first edition with 46 entries. Fastest qualifier was New Zealand's Chris Radisich, who was setting the pace during 90% of the main final. Just when it seemed that the I.M.C.A. president should win his real first great international race, his car slowed down on the difficult lane 1. He was passed by Frankie Poledna, and shortly before the end also by Einari Fyhr. Fourth place went to Salvatore Noviello, using the new Horky chassis and the famous NSR tires. Winner Poledna used the famous Czech HN1.0 chassis, initially developped for Production cars, but refused by the ISRA. This chassis is less expensive than the new Horky chassis, used by eight racer. Horky himself, Josef Korec, Jan Korec, Geert Mertens, "Piki", JPVR and Youri could not qualify for the main. Einari Fyhr and Chris Radisich used own chassis versions.
