Immediately after the qualifications of the EuroNats everybody believed that Brazil's young Antonio Texeira had a miracle n°94 McDonald's Taurus. Indeed, the car realised the pole in an unbelievable time, with its 240 grams even faster than the White Point bodied 190 gram old-timers. At the technical inspection it was found that Texeira entered a car without additional weight. But the secret of his car became all at once obvious at the Mello Yello, when technical director Bob Demeyer - next year race director - discovered by accident that Texeira entered a car with a strong hidden magnet. Since the wooden NSR Future track is equiped with metal strips instead of normal braids, the magnet ensured a much better road holding than on all other cars. Last year Texeira was already disqualified once for cheating the rules. When it happens a third time he'll be suspended from all IMCA racing for a period of 5 years. Pic: Stéphane Martin.
