GRIMBERGEN/LEDE (B)

The Nations Cup is an annual model car event where (except for the G12 race) all entrants compete once per year with equal arms: same type of car, same motor, same tires, same controller. The event is open to 12 national teams with 3 or 4 racers each. Racers coming from abroad have their plane tickets and hotel costs reimbursed by the organising IMCA. Curtain raiser on Thursday August 28 is the IMCA 132 Model Car Worlds contested at the Dison 42-m Carrera 6-laner. As promotion for the sport we wish to let see that the best racers of the world are not averse to race simple home cars on a simple home track in a simple club. Since all racers are hosted at the Thermae Hotel of Grimbergen during the whole event, a shuttle comes at 6am to pick them up for the trip to Dison. Racers should keep in mind that just before the start of the main final there will be the Modeler's World Championship (Concourse) for the 124 Nascar cars.  On Friday August 29 a crack regiment of 44 invited racers, coming from 14 countries and 5 continents, continue at Grimbergen with the Team Race and the EuroNats, all reserved for the same (scale 1/24th) Nascar model cars with hard plastic bodies. On Saturday August 30 we start more serious racing going by shuttle from Grimbergen to Lede for the Open G12 Benelux Cup on Noviello's wooden 8-laner, already used at the 2002 IMCA Worlds. At Lede, on the same wooden 8-laner, on Sunday August 31. the selected racers will contest the 2 remaining model car races: The Mello Yello Junior Worlds and the IMCA 124 Model Car Worlds. Racing premises will be closed by 7pm on Sunday, after the traditional price giving with the local mayor and miss Belgium. At the 18th Nations Cup 4 racers can qualify themselves to win an Audi TT Cabrio at the Pinky Point2 Audi Race on July 24, 2004. Then the winner of the 2003 IMCA 124 Worlds, 2003 IMCA 132 Worlds, 2003 Mello Yello and 2003 Modeller's Worlds (Concourse) will have to compete with the four best ranked racers at the PP2 final standings. The car is already bought and will be present at Dison, Grimbergen and Lede. The deal with BMW Belgium was cancelled on July 10, when Chris Eeckels, the PR-manager of BMW Belgium informed us by simple e-mail that BMW Belgium was at once no longer interested to sponsor the car. A ridiculous discount of € 1,000 was all what could be done! Furious about it my company bought immediately an Audi TT Cabrio, full options, in metallic grey.

Grimbergen is an old rural town, originated in the 8th century. Actually it counts 32,746 inhabitants and is situated at exit 7 of the mainway Ring round Brussels. Nearest airport is Brussels-Zaventem at 2.9 miles. Racers coming by car quit the Ring at exit 7, follow the indication "Grimbergen", pass two stop lights and arrive, just after the second stop light, in the Beigemsesteenweg. All they have to do is to continue their way straight on. Once at the Beigemsesteenweg they have to hold during 1.5 miles the pavements until n°330, JPVR's villa.  Lede is a rural village with 16,861 inhabitants, at only 16 miles from Grimber-gen. Origins of Lede go back to the days of the Roman Empire. Of its former castles, only one is left, however in a sorrowful state. By going with our race to Lede we wish attend the rest of the world, that a 16th century castle in ruin, should be saved! Racing goes in the modern Cultural Centre "De Bron".

                                     LATEST NEWS
Please consult the CHECK-LIST for your 1/24 Nascar cars (made by Bob Demeyer)
(1) Racers of Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Holland and Belgium, all coming by car, are asked to go immediately to Dison [77 rue Neuve] for the 132 Worlds. There they are expected at 8.00 a.m. on August 28.
(2) Having had problems to find enough Bison Mk3 motors for the Nascar races, we decided that there will be only a handout before the team-race at Grimbergen, and a second at the registrations at Lede. Racers feeling that the handout motor lacks power can always buy a second one at € 11.50 (the price we paid at CricCrac). In total we have only 90 motors available.
(3) There will be NO handout of front tires. Racers having no correct front tires can always buy a pair at the NSR stand (€ 12 per pair). Only the ones with "GoodYear" inscription will be allowed.
(4) Race director Bob Demeyer made a list with 20 objective criterions for Concourse. This list has been kept secretly in order to avoid that entrants should built their cars in function of the list. No other person than Bob Demeyer has any knowledge of the list. We remember that after the votes of the racers and of the jury the 10 most beautiful cars will be judged upon Bob Demeyer's objective criterions.
(5) Use of tire machines is strictly forbidden on all other days than August 30 (Open G12). Racers found on August 28, 29 and 31 with a tire machine in their boxes will be suspended for the rest of the meeting. Of course tire machines are allowed at the Open G12 meeting. On August 29, at Grimbergen, racers can only show with a tool box nog bigger than a Tamiya or Revell box. At Lede, where there is room for some ten Blue Kings, normal tool boxes are allowed. The same holds for Dison.
(6) At Dison all racers will receive two t-shirts, with on the back their name, on the front their ranking number and the national flag. Racers can keep this t-shirst (having cost some € 15 per piece, since names, number and national flags have been embroidered) after the race. No t-shirts were made for Patrick Savio and Cιdric Gridelet, since they never confirmed their entry at Dison.
(7) All hotel reservations were done by IMCA following the pairings to be found in the text below (Ά6).
(8) Pay-out of incentives will be done on August 28 at Dison following the figures sub Ά2 (cf. entrants table). Payment will be done in hands of the team coaches.
(9) All racers will receive a copy of the French and Flemish bill-board for the IMCA Nats plus the 16 pp leaflet with forecasts and pics of all entrants.
(10) Don't forget to prepair the bodies of your 132 cars and remember that they should be in the EXACT colours and equipped with the VODAFONE sun stroke.

* = the IMCA 132 Worlds is not considered for attribution of points for the Nations Cup. ** = anybody can enter the G12 race - Before the start all racers will receive two free t-shirts with their rank number on front, their name and first name on rear (the rank numbers are those in the annual ranking by August 1, 2003). There are NO wild cards. At Dison racing goes on a 42-m Carrera 6-laner. At Grimbergen racing goes on a Carrera 6-laner short track. At Lede racing goes on a 28m50 wooden 8-laner. At the IMCA 132 Worlds all racers receive a RTR TSRF-NSR Spider chassis; all they have to do is to show with a 132 DTM body with the correct racing numbers and with a Vodafone sun-stroke in red and white on the windshield. Racers not regular with their DTM car will be refused for the rest of the meeting. At all model car races NSR digital controllers, fixed to the track are used. At all model car races handout NSR tires are used. Race director is Bob Demeyer. His assistants are Anko Stok (NL) and Andy Brown-Searle (GB). If a racer's name is followed by • that implies that he's eligible to win the Audi TT Cabrio at Pinky Point2 (July 24, 2004 at Zlin); if his name is followed by • that implies that he's not eligible to win the Audi TT Cabrio at Pinky Point2 since he returned the Concourse list NOT in time. Racers with their name in blue are younger than 25 years and allowed to enter the Mello Yello Junior World Championship. Racers with their name in purple are NO entrants at the Nations Cup, but starters at the 132 Model Car Worlds. However they are allowed to start at the OPEN G12 RACE.

Ά 4. SAVE HISTORY, SAVE THE CASTLE OF LEDE!

In the centre of Lede, in the middle of a park of 7 hectares, one finds the walled Castle of Lede, hidden to any tourist. This 16th century castle, with a neo-gothic annex chapel and school complex (dating from 1905) contains a marquisate following a draft of the famous Florentine architect Giovanni Niccolo Servandoni. Until 1970 the castle and the park were well-maintained. Then it came in hands of the Ministery of Defence having done absolutely nothing to maintain this unique complex. Thirty years later the castle is just a ruin, because building contracters hope that the castle can be abolished to be replaced by cheap social flats. Against this scandal we wish to protest in face of the international press. That's the cultural goal of the 18th Nations Cup. Imagine that in the U.S., in Australia, in New Zealand they found such a castle: it should have been maintained in its last little detail. In Flanders they believe that they have enough castles so that they can abolish at least one, even if this castle is the history of a complete village. More...

Ά 5. THE TRACKS & THE CONTROLLERS

MODEL CAR TRACK is a 16m50 Mickey Mouse short oval, 6-laner Carrera, destinated for model car racing.  G12 TRACK & WORLDS TRACK is a new NSR 32m wooden 8-laner, not earlier used in competition.

ATTENTION:  TRACK IS WIRED AS OVERALL IN THE WORLD (ECXEPT FOR ENGLAND): POSITIVE IS ON THE RIGHT, AND NEGATIVE IS ON THE LEFT.

THE NSR ELECTRONIC CONTROLLERS

Except at the Open G-12 race, no own controllers can be used, but only the controllers fixed at the NSR Future Track. The used controllers were developped by the actual model car world champion and former ISRA scale racing world champion Salvatore Noviello. The electronic controllers are absolutely revolutionary. They are equipped with two buttons. The red one regulates the braking. In the position 0 O'clock you have minimal braking, in the position 9 O'clock maximum braking. The black pot regulates the sensitivity. Here again, in a position of 0 O'clock you have maximum sensitivity (accelerating the fastest), in a position of 9 O'clock you have minimum sensitivity. There will be in total 16 controllers available. The electronic controllers can be ordered directly to Salvatore Noviello after the races. They are world wide patented.

Ά 6. THE H0TELS FOR FOREIGN & BELGIAN RACERS
foto thermae grimbergen

During the whole event the racers of all other countries than Czechia & Holland will be lodged at the famous THERMAE HOTEL in Grimbergen. Address:

Wolvertemsesteenweg 74
1850 Grimbergen
Tel: 02/270.81.96
Fax: 02/269.08.53

It's a beauty farm, annex sauna and hotel. Rooms in the old part of the building are restricted. At the same street, on n° 92, one find the remaining rooms. All check-ins are to be done at the beauty farm at n°74. All racers receive the necessary incentives that they can pay their hotel. Reser-vations are already done on name of the racers by IMCA. Since Lede is at only 16 miles from Grimber-gen, a shuttle will bring the racers the two last days to Lede, so that they have not to change hotel for the second part of the 18th Nations Cup. The hotel has an annex at Grote Heirbaan 136, Grimbergen. The German racers and Geert Mertens will be lodged in the annex. Check-in, however, is to be done at Wolvertemsesteenweg 74, in the beauty farm. All racers have right on free sauna.

Racers from Czechia and Holland are lodged at the TOWER BRIDGE HOTEL. Address:

Welvaartsdijk 195
1850 Grimbergen
Tel: 02/252.02.40
Fax: 02/252.09.58

It's a famous hotel-restaurant, along the canal. We suggest that racers from Czechia and Holland, coming by car, go the first day directly to Dison for the 132 Worlds, so they can save one day of hotel costs. If budget allows so we'll have on Sunday evening a diner with all entrants at the Tower Bridge Hotel. Note tat a trip from the airport to both hotels costs € 25.00. All racers are responsible for their hotel bill. Team coaches receive an incentive being high enough to pay the rooms (breakfast included).

IMPORTANT REMARKS - (1) Racers already present in their hotel by August 27 will be picked up by the shuttle on Thursday morning August 28 at 6 a.m. for the trip to Dison. (2) Racers coming by car from Germany, Czechia or Holland are better to go directly to Dison for the first race. (3) It is absolutely not necessary to rent a car, since during the whole event a shuttle will be present. (4) Up from August 29 all travelling for ALL racers will be done by shuttle. (5) For the races at Grimbergen racers should know that NO TOOL BOXES will be allowed since there is not enough space. Only those tools fixing in a Revell or Tamiya box will be allowed. All other tools need to stay in the hotel!!! Racers not respecting this principle will be refused at the start.

Ά 8 IMCA MONEY INCENTIVES

For the first time since years the IMCA Nations Cup is organised with a budget of € 20,000. Upon arrival the team coaches will receive the incentives as mentioned in yellow on the entry list. Maximum intervenience in a plane ticket is € 1,250. The incentives are enough to cover the travelling costs and the hotel costs of the racers. It is up to the team coaches to reserve the plane (or train) tickets for his racers. If he needs the incentive before departure the bank wiring costs are at his charges, and the money can be wired at mid-August. Situations as in 2002 will no longer be tolerated [I mean: situations where we had even to pay the food and phone calls of some racers]. At any rate plane tickets need to be ordered in time to obtain the prices mentioned above. If a team coach wants payment of the incentives for his team before departure he should send an e-mail to jppro@pandora.be, mentioning name and address of his bank, his account number, the routing or SWIFT-code of his bank, the name of the person to contact at his bank and the telephone number of his bank.
