The Dyver canal, here on the picture, makes several right-angled turns past ancient houses and underneath equally old bridges. The modernised hotel was during the 15th century, when the dukes of Burgundy held their court at Bruges, the seat of a transport company of Venice. The windows are still in the old Venetian glass. When on September 3, Paul Kassens had to quit Bruges, to return to the States, he at once had to quit a dream to awake in a world where hard dollars replaced the weak romantic dreams, being Bruges's speciality. End of the story. Pic: Paul OWH Kassens. |
