June 13, 2007 - In 2001 Lola launched a prototype of the class LM
P675. Despite financial problems MG supported Ray Mallock when
he took delivery of the first Lola EX257. Having been replaced by
the new MG Lola EX264 (in fact a Lola B05/40) one of the older EX257
cars was sold to Autocon Motorsports in the States. They
decided to equip it with a V8 Judd 5.5 litre engine and to race it,
after several modifications to let the car meet the rules for P1
cars, up from 2006 in the ALMS series. However, the chassis was not
designed to receive such powerful motor (600 to 640 bhp!) and
Autocon's revisited MG Lala EX257 Judd suffered from a too low
reliability.
RESULTS - With the original MG Lola EX257 Ray Mallock scored
a couple of fine results. Among them several class scores at the LMS
and an unexpected overall victory over the Audi R8 TDi in a round of
the 2005 ALMS. In 2006 the team opted for the new MG Lola EX264. In
hands of Autocon Motorsport, and having been upgraded to a hybrid
LMP1 prototype the car was relatively successful. After a
withdrawal at the 2006 Sebring 12 hours the car finished once third
overall at the 2006 Petit Le Mans, and three consecutive times sixth
at Salt Lake City, Portland and Road America 500. In 2007 the car
was still raced during the three first rounds of the ALMS, however
without success. Later Autocon Motorsports changed the car for their
newly acquired Creation CA06-H. After its last race the team
organised a farewell party for the car.
