RACE FACTS - Involved in the FIA GT Championship, where they collected a 13th, 14th and 17th place in races prior to Le Mans, the Russians Alexei Vasilev and Nikolaj Fomenko, went in 3 hours from rank 40 on the grid to rank 25. They nearly know maintaining this position until the 4th hour. But then Robert Nearn takes over the wheel. Trying to pass two Porsches in front of him he goes off the road at the Porsche Curves. He tries valiantly to hold the car but strikes the wall on the inside, causing considerable damage to the rear of the car. The car is towed backwards behind the wall. For the second Yukos Porsche the race is over after less than five hours.
