RACE FACTS - After its second place to the GT winning Freisinger Porsche at the Monza 1,000-kms, the JMB Ferrari 360 Modena is one of the main favourites for winning GT at Le Mans. This is confirmed at the qualifications where the car is second to the fastest GT, the #90 Petersen-White Lightning Porsche GT3. However, due to problems with the selection cables, Jaime Melo has to start from the pit lane, where he looses two laps after the start. After this disastrous begin Melo, Daoudi and Fournoux can bring the car back frm rank 46 to rank 20 in seven hours of racing, being now third in its class, only headed by the Petersen-White Lightning Porsche and the #85 Freisinger Porsche - and this despite a spin by de Fournoux at the Playstation Chicane. At 23.49h Jaime Melo goes off the road at the Michelin Chicane. The front of the car is seriously damaged and repairs make the car loosing 27 minutes in the pits. Daoudi rejoins the race down to rank 31, when he reports that the starter is broken. A new repair costs the car 18 minutes. Daoudi rejoins the race but will be enforced to retire the car at 02.29h with transmission problems. |
