RACE FACTS: Already before the start the RML MG Lola has starternator problems. At the end of his first double stint, Tommy Erdos has again serious starting problems, loosing two laps in the garage. The car drops to rank 33. Mike Newton succeeds bringing the car back into 16th position, when at 19.29h he spins at the Ford Chicane. He can bring the car back into the pits, where Nathan Kinch takes over. On coming in for fuel the car refuses to start during more than two complete hours. The car drops from 16th to 42th. One discovers a cracked exhaust manifold, apart from the starternator troubles. Nathan Kinch can bring the car in reasonable distance to the back benchers, but ignition problems at nearly each pit stop prevent that progress is hard to detect. After a difficult race the car is eventually in 22nd position when at 11.54h Erdos, going very slowly, enters the pits with a broken motor. Ray Mallock's crew checks the motor and decides to retire the car, with two hours to go: broken piston. |
