RACE FACTS - Having been absent at the start of the Monza 1,000-kms, the #15 Dome S101 was one of the outsiders for victory at Le Mans. Started from rank 8 on the grid, the car was stopped by a throttle sensor problem at Mulsanne during lap 4. When the car rejoins the track it is in 24th position. During the first hour the car moves up to rank 10 and continues it's progress until the fourth hour, where it is found in fourth position. Lammers and Kaneishi maintain that fourth position during the fifth hour. Chris Dyson even succeeds to bring the #15 Dome in third position, only preceeded by the two leading Audis, when a fuel pump (filter?) problem is discovered. The car goes into the garage and rejoins the track in 21st position, 13 laps down to the leaders, and even headed by the fastest GTS and GT cars. Shortly after quarter race Jan Lammers suffers a puncture, but the car can rejoin the race ofter a minimum of time in 15th position. At midnight, after eight hours of racing, the #15 Dome is 14th, two laps down to the sister car on rank 10, but 15 laps down to the leading Audi. Approaching 01.00h after a pit stop for fuel and tires, the Judd engine refuses to fire up, with Chris Dyson waiting in the car and loosing again four places. 01.30h: Lammers' and Dyson's dream is all but over. The most recent fail-to start problem dropped the Dome to 31st place, 28 laps down. The eight following hours the Lammers Dome meets no more troubles so that it can move in twelfth position after 18 hours, 35 laps down to the leader, eight laps down to the other Racing for Holland Dome, being now seventh. A troublefree last hours permit Lammers & Co to win five places during the last six hours. After gearbox problems with the #16 sister car', the #15 is again first Dome (the #9 Kondo Dome having retired). Eventually Jan Lammers succeeds to finish as seventh, 38 laps down to the winners. During the six last hours only more three laps were lost on the leading Audis. |
