Gianotti Trophy 2004  Gianotti Trophy 2005 Gianotti Trophy 2006 Gianotti Trophy 2007 Gianotti Trophy 2008 Gianotti Trophy 2009 Gianotti Trophy 2010

IMCA organises since 2003 each year a competition for hard bodied 1/24th model cars to commemorate the late Franco Gianotti and with him all our slot-racing friends who passed away. As 2011 will be the last year where I'll be able to organise a world championship for model cars, and as the Franco Gianotti Trophy was always part of those worlds, I am afraid that no other Gianotti Trophy races will follow after 2011.  How painful! I did a last attempt to save the Gianotti Trophy by proposing for 2012-2016 a European DSC championship to be contested with 1973 Interserie cars. On racing vintage models European racers are much more interested in European cars than in the Canam cars we raced in 2010 at the Gianotti Trophy. On racing 1973 Interserie cars we could think at the over 1000bhp strong Porsches 917/30TC, 917/10TC, 917T, but also on such small European 2-litre cars as the Chevron B21 Ford FVC, Lola T290 & T212 Ford FVC, at the GRD S73 BMW, at the forgotten KMW Porsches, etc.  I thus proposed that for the period 2011-2015 the Gianotti Trophy should be contested with 1973 Interserie cars. Most models of such cars are available at Toj-Drom of Jörg Obermoser, himself a German Interserie entrant in 1/1 racing. The proposal to save the Gianotti Trophy seemed to interest, except for Matthias Parke, nobody, even not Franco's most close friends. Nothing is so tragic as passing away and being completely forgotten by your friends after a couple of years. So my question is: is there some person somewhere, who is interested to continue the commemoration of the fantastic racer Franco Gianotti was. Should you be interested, please mail me at jppro@pandora.be.

In 1988 Franco Gianotti (middle) won in Chicago the World Championship Endurance Racing. The Wing Car Worlds was won by Mike Swiss (left), the Scale Racing Worlds by Jan Limpach (right). Franco Gianotti was one of the best scale and model car racers of his generation. He was also an excellent chassis builder. In 2002 he passed away after a deadly fall through the roof of his own factory. Since, IMCA realises each year the Gianotti Trophy as commemoration of a great racer and a real great man.
