SURVEY OF THE 3
RETRO SPRINT RACES WITH CANAM CARS 1. THE 24th
BENELUX CUP (Sunday)
will be contested for the first time in a quarter
century with D3 Canam cars and this following the technical
prescriptions sub
art 6.C
of the MOCPA Rule Book. That article copies, except for part C ("The
Motor") the existing D3 rules. As motor retro cars will use in 2012
the ProSlot Euro Mk1 with US
Puppy Dog armature and can with ball bearing. The
Benelux Cup is the warm-up race for the 3rd Retro Worlds on Sunday.
2. THE 21st RETRO EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP (EURONATS) (Sunday) will be contested no longer with 1/24th model cars but for the first
time with D3 retro Canam cars. The race will be reserved for 64
racers. Technical rules are D3's (except for the handout motor a
broken-in ProSlot Euro Mk1 Puppy Dog with bearing at the can).
3. THE 3rd
RED BULL RETRO RACING
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP (Monday) will be the
highlight of the Barcelona Worlds. That race too will be contested with
1/24th D3 Canam cars with a format of 8 Consis (8 x 3'), 4 Quarters (8 x
3'), 2 Semis (8 x 4') and 1 Main Final (8 x 5'). There will be room for
64 entrants, among them 12 racers from
the USA, 5 racers of the UK, 5 racers of the RSA, 3
racers from Australia, 3 racers from Japan, 2 racers from Brazil, 1 racer from Argentine,
1 from South-Africa, 1 from New Zealand, 1 from Nigeria and all the traditional racers we normally saw at the former IMCA Worlds
meetings, now the first MOCPA meeting. Racers coming from overseas will
receive a travelling bonus covering their plane ticket cost. As racers
can lodge for free at the local school, no extra hotel costs will be
due. The D3 Retro Racing Worlds will be TV covered. No less than 34
racers coming from overseas will be at the start, representing the five
world continents. Not earlier in the history of slot-racing such
happened, even not in the golden sixties! Something that will be stocked
in your memory for the rest of your life. More
details can be found at MOCPA's Special Retro Worlds page
The
MTT flat track is a concept by Michel Thoumieu (F) and was used for the first time at the 1987 IMCA
Worlds in Toulouse (F). We have knowledge that in total at least 17 MTT
tracks were built. Actually there exists an excellent MTT track at
Toronto, having been used at the 2009 Toronto Masters. Dan Debella (USA)
of ProSlot bought three MTT tracks in the late 1980s. One of them was sold to Lee Gilbert (USA), but is no longer in
use. The original first MTT track was given in 1988 by IMCA to Hubert
Jacob (F), who installed it at the Chimay Casino, where it was destroyed
after a couple of years. The second MTT track, still built by Michel
Thoumieu, landed at Abu Dhabi where it was in use until 2002. At Trondhem (N) a variant on the MTT track was built, however not with the
correct dimensions. This year an MTT track has been built in Brisbane
(AU). In Sicily an MTT track was used for the 2001 ISRA Worlds. The IMCA
MTT track was built by Brian Crosby of Steve Ogilvie Tracks (CDN) in September 2007 in
view of the 2007 IMCA Worlds. The track has also be used in 2008, 2009,
2010 and 211 for the IMCA Worlds.
UNDER D3 RULES Except for
the motor, we race under D3 rules (as formulated by Paul
Sterrett), what can be seen from the
MOCPA Rule Book in art. 6.C. As motor we prefer
handout double sealed, tagged and already broken in numbered
Proslot Euro Mk1 "Puppy Dog" motors, which have to be drawn from
a closed box. Should a racer feel unhappy with the drawn motor
he can always buy another copy, sold at its market price.
