The Model Car Sprint
World Championship for Pros of 2012 will be contested with
24 F1 cars at scale 1/24th (instead of Supercup Porsches, which
will only be used for the Production Championship). There are
three serious reasons for it. (1) A profound legal inquiry
gave full evidence that anybody can organise a 1/24th scale race
with Revell bodies, even if they are painted in different
colours (e.g. by painting a Revell copy of the 2010
Ferrari F150 in the colours of the 2011 Red Bull RB7 Renault),
without any possibility that Ecclestone & Cie can claim
rights for it. Those rights have been paid by the body
manufacturer (Revell) and the buyer of such body can paint it in
any colour he/she wants. (2) Racing 1/24th models of the 1/1
F1 cars allows a fund raiser to find much higher sponsoring
income than on working for the Model Car Sprint World
Championship - already the 24th in history - with Porsches
Supercup cars at the 16th Production Worlds. Indeed, one can
make deals with each of the 12 racing teams in actual F1. For
those team, investing at least $ 30,000,000 for one season, a
small sponsoring of $ 5,000 is less than peanuts. [Later it will
appear that this was a miscalculation. Only $ 50,000 US on
sponsoring money could be collected without further time-taking
travelling & negotiations. Due to lack of time I insisted no
longer. The final result was that I had to drop several racers
from the entry list, among them 5 Americans, 4 South-Africans, 4
Germans, 1 UK racer and 1 racer from Argentine - most of them
not selected for the 124F1 races.] (3) Chances to bring the
1/24th version of the Spanish Grand Prix on a national TV
net-work are much higher than racing Porsche Supercup cars.
As there are only 24 cars starting in a 2011 Grand Prix, not ALL
pros present in Barcelona will be able to start at the 24th
Model Car Sprint World Championship for Pros, but in
principle
only the 24 highest IOC ranked racers among them. Pros
having only subscribed for the 3 retro races of Sunday and
Monday, such as Ron Hershman, Dave Fiedler or Jay Kisling, are
not considered in making the list of 24 selected racers. That
can easily be seen at the
following table.
As chassis only one of the easily commercial available types,
equipped with a front spoiler protector, can be used. That
implies that there is no place for the Plafit F1 chassis or for
the DoSlot F1 chassis. The VauMan F1 chassis by
Volker Hibbeln has a front spoiler protector, but is
commercially hard to find. It is sold since X-Mas 2010 at
€ 80.00. So the lonely chassis being eligible are the
124F1 Niemas Racecars (NRF124-1),
the Jens Scaleauto 124F1 WWS F1 (#96500)
and the new Metris F1 chassis distributed by Austria's
Slotfuchs.at.
Handout motor will be the
SR-49 Hi-Speed F124.
Cost of all entered 1/24th F1 slot cars must always be under
€ 180.00. Race format will be similar to 1/1
racing with 3 qualification rounds (always on lane
"purple"). The eventual race will go over 3 straight heats of
8 x 7'30" with the 8 slowest qualifiers in the first heat,
the 8 fastest qualifiers in the third and last heat. |

1: OFFICIAL MOCPA RACES
1.1. the ANNUAL MOCPA
WORLDS
(1) SPRINT RACES - M.O.C.P.A (Model Car Promotion
Association)
organises yearly the following sprint races: (i) the
(MOCPA
Model Car 124 PRO) 124F1 World Championship Sprint
disputed with 1/24th hard plastic Revell bodies of recent F1 cars as described
sub art. 6.B, with or 24
starters or
32 starters,
exclusively PRO racers, in principle those 24 or those 32 entrants with the
lowest IOC rank number.
Art. 3: RACE FORMAT AT THE MOPCA WORLDS
3.1.
QUALIFICATIONS
(1) ...
(2) QUALIFICATIONS AT THE 124F1 SPRINT WORLDS - At the
Sprint Worlds, contested with F1 cars, there are always 3 qualification
sessions, the first session going over twice 1' on lane purple.
[2.a.] QUALIFICATION SESSION #1 WITH
32 STARTERS
- At session #1 there are 32 starters, but only the 16 best IOC-ranked
starters are ensured they can enter the eventual race. Racers IOC-ranked from
places 17 to 24 will have a direct opponent among the racers ranked from place
25 to 32, racing the SAME body, and well as follows 17 & 32 race the same body,
18 & 31 race the same body, 19 & 30, 20 & 29, 21 & 28, 22 & 27, 23 & 26, 24 &
25. Of those "duos" only the fastest of the two after the two 1' trials
can join the eventual race. The losing racer of each duo is OUT for the eventual
race. He receives (i) his entry fee back plus (ii) € 150 (being
the estimated value of the car), the last, however, only if the eliminated racer
offers his car to the organiser. After qualification session #1 the 24 cars
being still in competition are ranked from 1 to 24. Cars ranked from 17 to 24
cannot enter the second qualification session.
[2.b.] QUALIFICATION SESSION #2 WITH
32 STARTERS
- Session goes over 1' on lane purple. Here cars having qualified lower than
rank 10 are OUT for the last qualification session. Cars finishing lower than
10th at the second qualification session are out for the last session.
[2.c.] QUALIFICATION SESSION #3 WITH
32 STARTERS
- Session goes over 30' on lane purple.
[2.d.] QUALIFICATION SESSION #1 WITH
24
STARTERS - At session #1
the 24 entrants have 2 time trials of 1 minute with 30 seconds between each
trial. The racers qualified from 17 to 24 are out for session #2 and are
definitively ranked 17th to 24th.
[2.e.] QUALIFICATION SESSION #2 WITH
24
STARTERS - Session #2 goes
with 16 cars over 1 minute trials. Cars finishing from 11th to 16th are out for
session #3 and will be ranked as such.
[2.f.] QUALIFICATION SESSION #3 WITH
24
STARTERS - Session
#3 goes with 10 cars over 30 seconds trials. Ranking from 1 to 10 corresponds
with the result of that session.
(3) QUALIFICATION ORDER
- Order follows the rank number of the racers,
with the best ranked racer starting as last.
Rank numbers are based upon the IOC-list of January 1.
(4) QUALIFICATION DURATION AT THE F1 SPRINT WORLDS
WITH
32 STARTERS
- Session #1 will take twice 1' + 30" for 32 racers, resulting in a total of 96
minutes. After a break of 10 minutes session #2 will take 16 times 1' + 30",
resulting in 24 minutes. After a break of 4 minutes session #3 will take 10
times 30" + 30" = 10 minutes. So total qualification time at the F1 Sprint
Worlds mist be scheduled around 96 + 10 + 24 + 4 + 10 =
144 minutes,
that's nearly 2h30.
(5) QUALIFICATION DURATION AT THE F1 SPRINT WORLDS
WITH
24 STARTERS
-
Session #1 will take twice 1' +
30" for 24 racers, resulting in a total of 72 minutes. After a break of 4
minutes session #2 will take 16 times 1' + 30", resulting in 24 minutes. After a
break of 4 minutes session #3 will take 10 times 30" + 30" = 10 minutes. So
total qualification time at the F1 Sprint Worlds mist be scheduled around 72 + 4
+ 24 + 4 + 10 = 114 minutes,
that's nearly 2h.
3.2. FORMAT AT THE 1/24th SPRINT RACES
(1) ...
(2) STRAIGHT FORMAT - Will be applied at all other races, with
the slowest qualifiers or the racers with the highest IOC number (if there are
no qualifications) in the first heat, and the fastest qualifiers or the racers
with the lowest IOC number (if there are no qualifications) in the last heat.
(3) TYRE CHANGE - Rear wheels must
only be changed at the 124F1 World Championship and this not earlier than after
run #2 and not later than after run #6 of the 8 runs. |
