August 1, 2011 -
The 2012 Endurance Worlds will be organised on Saturday July 18, 2012
with free practice from midnight until 5am, a warm-up race of 8 x 5' at
8am, and the word championship over 3 sections of 8 x 7'30" (with the
last section under night conditions) from 1pm until Sunday morning 3am.
The race will be open for 64 entrants with 32 cars. Of
those cars 16 will be driven by PRO racers (having won in their career
120 or more IOC points) and 16 by SEMI-PRO & AMATEUR racers (having won
in their career less than 120 IOC points). There will be a separate
world championship for PROs and a separate world championship for
SEMI-PROs and AMATEURs. Racers showing exclusively at the endurance
races on Saturday (and not entering the sprint races on Friday & Sunday)
should be already present on Friday but will have no hotel costs
to pay as they can, if they wish so, be hosted on Friday and Sunday at a
school close to the race track.
RACE LOCATION will be
Barcelona (but only if the model
cars having been stolen at the 2011 worlds will be returned to Francesc
Reyes). Otherwise
race location will be or Dunkerque
or Le Mans in France.
TRACK will be the Steve Ogilvie
48-metre wooden MTT 8-laner, having
earlier be used at the Worlds of 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
WHY WE NEED THE BEST
RACERS - If we wish to go in 2013 with model car body kits to the
model car shops - the conditio sine qua non for good promotion of
slot-racing - we cannot work with the very sophisticated model cars as
actually used in most model car racing. Model car shops expect a
distribution margin of 40 % and manufacturers not selling directly to
costumers. Year 2012 will be a year of transition. At MOCPA we wish to
give full evidence that high level racing is also possible with
inexpensive cars during the year of transition. Success will be only
guaranteed if the best racers will show to dispute racing with simple
cars. Getting the necessary sponsoring money from Blancpain will only be
possible if we can show with the best racers.
ON BODIES -
Pro racers will
drive 1/24th scale GFK bodies of the
Ferrari 458 Italia (5), of the
Audi R8 LMS (5), of the
BMW Z4 GT3 (4), of the Ford
GT (1) and of the Aston
Martin DBRS9 (1) as having been seen at the 2011 Total 24
Hours of Spa. [It's the last year that the expensive GFK bodies will
still be raced, in 2013 they'll be replaced by inexpensive thick lexan
bodies.] A lexan interior (with driver with hard plastic head) and lexan
mirrors are allowed. Semi-pro & amateur racers will
drive 1/24th scale polystyrene (= hard plastic) bodies of the
Mercedes SLS AMG (7), of the
Porsche 997 GT3-R (5), of the
Ford Mustang FR500 (2), and of the Aston
Martin DBRS9 (2) as having been seen at the 2011 Total 24
Hours of Spa. One has to use the plastic windows and the plastic
interior as found in the kit and to add (if necessary) a driver with
hard plastic head.
ON CHASSIS - Pro racers can use one
of the four following chassis: (a)
NDW Agent Smith
(€ 99.00) (b)
Plafit SLP1
(€ 43.78), (c)
DoSlot GT-C 13D
(€ 78.00) and
(d)
Slotfabrik nSF
7TX v4 Evo
(€ 99.95). No
RTR Pro car can
cost (motor &
decals not included) more than
€ 299.95.
Semi-pro & amateur racers
can use one of the four following chassis:
(a)
MSC-2014RTR
(€ 66.25) (b)
M-Racing C1-KSC
(€ 89.00), (c)
Plafit Excel Pro
Racing
(€ 46.65) and
(d)
WWW GT Jens
(€ 79.00). A
complete RTR car
of a semi-pro or
amateur can
never cost
(motor & decals not included) more
than
€ 199.95.
Chassis parts can only be changed by replacement items of the same make.
Nothing on the chassis may be changed. Boring the standard chassis by
drilling holes is not allowed.
ON MOTOR, PINION & GEAR - Per car
entrants will receive a handout Proslot
motor. Nothing on this (tagged) motor may be changed.
On the received motor a cooler may be added, and the original
motor bracket may be replaced by one in the homologation list. Spurgear
(M50, 44T) and pinion (M55, 9T) can only be those in the
homologation list.
Lead wire and braids are free, but we recommend the items in the
homologation list.
ON WHEELS, AXLES & BEARINGS -
Wheels & wheel inserts,
Axles & bearings are restricted to
those in the homologation list. Before the start there is one set of
handout 27.5 x 13 mm rear wheels per entered car. Change of
those rear wheels is
obliged during racing time at the endurance worlds. A second pair of
rear tyres will be handout when the first pair of rear wheels comes
back.
ON GUIDE, GUIDE NUT & WASHERS - No
other guide, guide nut and washers can be used than those found on the
homologation list.
ON LIGHTS - As the last section of
the endurance worlds is contested under night conditions all cars must
be equipped with functioning front and rear lights. No other lightning
kit can be used than one of those produced by
Z Machine.
ON DECALS - If
64 excellent racers can be found for the endurance worlds, MOCPA will
manufacture the decals for all 32 cars.
ENTRANTS -
Below we
try to give an idea of who could be the entrants. The cited names are
certainly not definitive. Should we go to France with the endurance
worlds, there will me more French racers on the potential entry list.
Should it be sure that we return to Barcelona, more Spanish racers will
be added to the potential entry list. If you accept the invitation, please be so
kindly to return the below entry form. Pros drive always cars on
a yellow background, non-pros cars on a green background. It is always
possible to drive another car than the one provisionally reserved under
your name. [JPVR] |

The provisional Board of Directors asked me to give them an idea of the
potential format of the 2012 MOCPA endurance races. What follows is
nothing more than a preliminary version. One of the leading MOCPA
members - Brian Saunders (GB) - insists to return to Barcelona
with the 2012 Model Car Worlds. As positive points of the 2011 edition
he names: (1) The fact that the 2011 organiser - Francesc Reyes
- did great efforts to make the 2011 edition enjoyable for all
entrants. The meeting was well announced in the local press, prize
giving was done by the major, brand new restrooms were installed, there
was a marquee for catering, there was interest of the local TV, etc. (2)
The time schedule was well respected. (3) Reception of IRRA racing
was very positive by the Spanish racers. (4) Separate entrance for
racers and spectators. (5) Good indication of the way to the racing
location with road panels. (6) Decent sponsoring by the local
municipality. Negative points,
however, were: (1) The lack of internet. (2) Very poor
marshalling by some Spanish racers, resulting in the destruction of 2
cars. (3) Still several mistakes at scrutineering, e.g. the fact that
the handout Falcon motors at the retro race were not tagged. (4) Only
half of the announced Spanish racers showed. (5) Nobody gave any
comment in Spanish when the big races were on, so that the public was
NOT informed about what was going on. (6) Too many persons with an
organisation badge hanging around the track. It's indeed very
possible, as Saunders puts, that all those child diseases will be solved
in 2012. However there is one crucial point that needs to be solved
before the majority of the MOCPA members will agree to return in 2012 to
Barcelona for the Worlds: the stolen NDW Corvette, winner of the 2011
Endurance Worlds, the stolen retro car of Howie Ursaner, the solen
Niemas F1 chassis and the stolen camera need to be returned by 1
September 2011. If that is not the case the MTT track has to come
back in September. Return of the stolen goods is a conditio sine qua
non to return in 2012 to Barcelona. It's obvious that the mentioned
goods were stolen by one of the Spanish racers being present at the
Friday evening unscheduled race. Organiser Reyes is responsible for his
racers. If he cannot get the stolen goods back any further co-operation
with MOCPA has to be stopped.
