On general request of the racers - disliking  separate Herentals Worlds and Barcelona Giganten Party - the 23rd IMCA Worlds will be organised from July 19 thru 23, 2011 at the CM Les Franqueses,  C/ San Isidre s/n Nau 5, 08520 Les Franqueses (Barcelona). Track will be 48-metre Steve Ogilvie MTT 8-laner. The event will start with the Giganten Party, where 16 pros drive GFK bodied cars and the others resin bodied cars. All cars are 1/24th copies of 1973 Interserie/Canam cars and will be driven over 5 rounds.
There will be
two Sprint World Championships:  The 15th Mello Yello World Championship for Semi-Pros & Amateurs  will be contested together on Tuesday and Wednesday July 19-20 as part of the Giganten Party.  There they contest 5 rounds with resin bodied 1973 Interserie/Canam cars. At each round the 10 first semi-pros & amateurs win res. 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 points. The semi-pro or amateur having won most points will be the new world champion. Semi-Pros are racers having collected less than 120 IOC points but 40 or more. Amateurs are racers having collected in their career less than 40 IOC points. Ties will be broken by comparing total achieved laps over the 5 rounds.
The
23rd Pro Sprint Worlds 1/24th will be contested on Saturday July 23  with 24 identical BMWs M1, assembled by Michael Niemas, and already used for the previous worlds of 2009 & 2010. Cars will be assigned by pure lottery. The 24 handout cars will go to the 16 racers having raced GFK bodies at the Giganten Party and to the 8 first scratch of the racers having competed with resin bodies.
The
2nd Retro Racing World Championship on Thursday July 21 will be contested with 1/24th pre-1970 CANAM scale cars, and this under IRRA rules (except for the handout Falcon motors). The
15th Production World Championship will also be contested on Thursday July 21  with 1/32rd handout NSR cars. That race to is open for any entrant (pro, semi-pro or prom) with a maximum of 48. No fee is due for that race.
This is the last international race organised by JPVR who'll return in active politics in Belgium, so that after the Barcelona Worlds there'll be no more time left for slot-racing.
The
10th Endurance Worlds will be contested on Friday July 22  with the same 24 FIA GT1 cars as used at the 5th EEC of November 2010. The race goes over 3 sections of 8 x 5' with 2 racers per car. The Endurance Worlds will be preceded by a short warm-up race with the same cars, being considered as the 6th EEC. Fee is up to € 30 per racer.

 THE STEVE OGILVIE MTT TRACK

The MTT track is a concept by Michel Thoumieu (F) and was used for the first time at the 1986 IMCA Worlds in Toulouse (F). We have knowledge that in total at least 17 MTT tracks were built. Actually there exists an excellent MTT track at Toronto, having been used at the 2009 Toronto Masters. Dan Debella (USA) of ProSlot bought three MTT tracks in the late 1980s. One of them (at the right pic below) was sold to Lee Gilbert (USA), but is no longer in use. The original first MTT track was given in 1988 by IMCA to Hubert Jacob (F), who installed it at the Chimay Casino, where it was destroyed after a couple of years. The second MTT track, still built by Michel Thoumieu, landed at Abu Dhabi where it was still in use until 2002. At Trondhem (N) a variant on the MTT track was built, however not with the correct dimensions. This year an MTT track has been built in Brisbane (AU). In Sicily an MTT track was used for the 2001 ISRA Worlds. The IMCA MTT track was built by Steve Ogilvie (CDN) in Spetember 2007 in view of the 2007 IMCA Worlds. The track has also be used in 2008, 2009 and 2010 for the IMCA Worlds was used in November for the 5th EEC Pro. Racers being able to take the "Esses" at nearly full speed entering the Lead On at a much higher speed than others are considerably faster on the straight.

In total 57 international races were contested on the IMCA MTT track before December 31, 2011. Racers having won an international race at the MTT track are Nick de Wachter (NL, IOC #4, 8x),  "Piki" van Rossem (B, IOC #3,  7x), Michael Niemas (D, IOC #5, 7x),  Howard Ursaner (USA, IOC #16, 6 x), Chris Radisich (NZ, IOC #15, 6 x), Philipp Kremer (D, IOC #18, 5x),  Gabe Inäbnit (CH, IOC #20,  5x), Björn van Campenhout (B, IOC #71, 4x), Ralph Seif (D, IOC #9,  3x), Desmond Dekker (NL, IOC #51, 3x), Christian Schnitzler (D, IOC #41, 2x), Paul Gawronski (USA, IOC #19, 1x), James Cleave (GB, IOC #23, 1 x), Youri van Rossem (B, IOC #32, 1x), Giovanni Montiglio (I, IOC #34, 1x),  Kai Kivekäs (SF, IOC #43, 1x), Tamar Nelwan (NL, #53, 1x),  Ladislav Szalai (SK, IOC #75, 1 x), Jozef Miskolci (SK, IOC #93, 1 x), Mike Stahl (USA, IOC #94, 1x), Quinten Vanspauwen (B, IOC #214, 1x).   Except for Quinten Vanspauwen only pros won races at the IMCA MTT track.
