§ 2.B. THE F40S SPRINT CARS FOR SEMI-PROS & AMATEURS

                    FOUR TYPES OF FERRARI F40
l THE F40 GT - It are the oldest F40s having seen in competition. If one opts for this version nothing on the 1/24th Tamiya model car body may be changed: not the nose, not the rear spoiler.
l
THE F40 COMPETIZIONE - It's a further evolution of the F40 GT but the exterior of the body is identical with that of the F40 GT. Model car racers having opted for that type of car can change nothing on the exterior of the Tamiya 1/24th model car body.
l
THE F40 GTE - The F40 GTE was a competition version developed by Michelotto. The engine developed 560 bhp (487 bhp for the F40 GT version). On the front bonnet the two NACA ducts were replaced by a rectangular radiator cooling vent with a partition in the middle. Model car racers having opted for the GTE version of the F40 have carve a rectangle of 25 mm x 1.5 mm in the front bonnet. The hole must be filled by a huge radiator vent with central partition (in the same colour as the rest of the nose), descending towards the nose of the body. The huge radiator vent may be of hard plastic, resin, GFK, lexan or carbon one. On the F40 GTE the rear spoiler may be replaced by an inclined rubber or carbon version, never wider than 59 mm.
l THE F40 LM - The F40 LM had a much more powerful engine (760 bhp) than the F40 GTE (560 bhp), the F40 Competizione (487 bhp) or the F40 GT (487 bhp). The front bonnet was equipped with the same radiator vent as the one on the F40 GTE. Model car racers having opted for an LM version have to carve out out a 2.5 x 1.5 mm surface in the front bonnet to replace it by a radiator vent in the same colour as the rest of the bonnet. On the F40 LM a much wider rear spoiler was allowed than on all other types of F40. On the F40 LM version the spoiler holders may be cut and being replaced by a wider version, however without being in total wider than 86 mm. The spoiler holders can be of any material but must be perfectly integrated into the rear body.

THE FERRARI F40

Released by the end of 1987 the famous Ferrari F40 - with a 3-litre bi-turbo engine, 478bhp strong - was the fastest streetcar on earth, accelerating from 0 to 100 kph in 3.85 seconds and with a top speed of 324 kph. In 1988 I bought my first F40, the second sold in Belgium. I raced it at the Ferrari club where Michel Neugarten was my strongest opponent. Karl Frahm and I won 8 times on 11 outings with an improved streetcar version. Of all Ferraris I bought in my life my F40 was together with my 250 GTO the car I enjoyed most. In 1989 Charles Pozzi of Ferrari France tuned two F40 LM versions which were entered in IMSA GT racing. His cars reached in two years 7 podiums on 10 outings. They were equipped with a racing version of the Tipo 120A engine, now with two IHI 2.6 bar turbochargers (only 1.1 bar on the street version), reaching 720bhp, realising 0-100 in less than 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 367 kph (229 mph).
Up from 1992 no less than 8 improved versions (called F40 Competizione) of the streetcar entered the Italian GT Championship where they won all rounds against the Porsche 911 Carrera. Rori Parasitili won 6 rounds with the #1 Comil. Stefano Bucci and Luca Satori won the remaining rounds. In 1993 Parasitili's car was sold to Jolly Club. In the famous Monte Shell livery Marco Brand won 8 of the 10 rounds. In 1994 Jolly Club entered three cars of type F40 GT, now in the Totip X1 livery. The cars won 7 rounds of the 8 they entered. A GTE version (chassis 90001) won three rounds of the GT Worlds. In 1995 and 1996 some 560 bhp F40 GTE versions entered the BPR where they won 2 rounds, the Pilot F40 LM one round. At the 1994 JGTC one of the two Taisan F40s  (called F40 GT) won one round and three other podium places.
In total the F40 GT & Competizione (15 cars) won 31 races on 98 outings with 17 pole positions. The F40 GTE (5 cars) won 5 races on 35 outings with 9 pole positions. The F40 LM (4 cars) won 2 races on 30 outings with one pole position. Of the 19 race versions of the F40 we found no less than 44 different liveries. That implies that the 44 SEMI-PROS & AMATEURS, selected for the Endurance Worlds, will ALL have the possibility to enter the Citation Sprint World Cup (where € 500 can be won by the winner plus € 500 for concourse) with a Ferrari F40.
