JPVR'S DEFINITIVE FAREWELL
STEPHAN WIESEL X-MAS TROPHY-1

Saturday and Sunday December 27-28, 2008 are confirmed as the date for the very last international IMCA race organised by JPVR. Up from January 1 his leading position within IMCA will go over to Canada's Mark Campbell.   This real last JPVR X-Mas Races will go in honour of the late Stephan Wiesel, who - with Dieter Jens - was the founding father of actual model car racing. The five first at the Stephan Wiesel Trophy will receive a superb 1970 model car made by Stephan himself.
The Liqui Moly Stephan Wiesel X-Mas Races will be contested with 32 DRM (Deutsche Rennsport Meis-terschaft) cars of 1981 at scale 1/24th. There will be six races over 8 x 5 minutes: two on Saturday and four on Sunday. The races will be contested at the same location of the last IMCA Worlds: at Feestzaal De Posthoorn, 49 Brusselse-steenweg, B-2600 Mechelen. Entry fee for the six races of 8 x 5 minutes is up to € 60. The complete entry fee will go to Stephan's widow Beate and her children. It should be great if some Wiesel friends could show at the meeting. Or are we supposed to bring the money by car to Neumünster if nobody shows? Should be strange, no?
The 32 cars are spread over two groups. Group 5 Div 1 and Group 5 Div 2. Everybody is welcome, but only the 32 first subscribers will be accepted. There is only one racer per car. Racers with 5 IOC points or less CANNOT subscribe for this meeting (except if they finished among the top-10 of the Belgian Group 5 Trophy), but are welcome at the DRM 1978 meeting, one week earlier.

Points system is as follows: top 10 in Group 5 Div 1 (16 cars) win res. 20, 15, 12, 10,8, 6, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point(s). Same for top 10 in Group 5 Div 2 (16 cars). There could be a series of four warm-up races at the 20th IMCA Worlds. Later more.
Racers can subscribe by completing the subscription form (lower on this page) by March 31, 2008. By August 1 they have to send us a pic of their RTR car. If not in time, those subscribers will be replaced by the first substitutes on the list of subscribers. It should be superb if there should be racers of all continents at the start. It should be a clear proof that Stephan Wiesel's fame has been spread over the complete globe! [Ph. DC]

ATTENTION: IF YOU HAVE ONLY 5 IOC POINTS OR LESS YOUR SUBSCRIPTION FOR DECEMBER 27-28, 2008 WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. SURF THEN TO THE DECEMBER 20-21, 2008 SITE, WHERE YOU CAN SUBSCRIBE WITHOUT PROBLEMS. CLICK HERE TO CONSULT THE ALPHABETICAL IOC-LIST.

In honour of the founding father of model car racing

ON STEPHAN WIESEL & HIS PERFECT CARS

Stephan Wiesel passed away in Hamburg on Sunday December 16, 2007, while driving a Corvair Chevrolet at a DSC-meeting. He was an artist rather than just a manufacturer of resin slot-car bodies, in the same style as Pitter Schwaar. He should be considered - together with Dieter Jens - as the founder of true model car racing. Although it was not directly my friend, I had a great respect for his work. Stephan made his living from selling perfect slot-car bodies, tyres, and slot-car parts. By passing away his wife Beate and his children are in a difficult position. That's why I decided that the total of all entry fees at the Stephan Wiesel X-Mas Trophy will be wired to his wife. It's my hope that, just as the Franco Gianotti Trophy, the Stephan Wiesel X-Mas Trophy will continue year after year, also when I quit the slot-racing scene as an active organiser. As model car racers we should keep his memory alive, since he was one of the few showing us all the way to go. In my collection I have six model cars made by Stephan himself. Five of them will be offered to the five first in the final ranking of the Stephan Wiesel X-Mas Trophy. Among them the #27 Martini Porsche 908/02 (seen at the 1970 Le Mans 24 hours) and the Corvette Chevrolet #2. Other cars are a #25 N.A.R.T. Ferrari 512S Coda Lunga (Daytona), a AAW Shell Porsche 917K (1970 Le Mans) and the #30 Gesipa Porsche 917K of 1971.

At the 2004 Franco Gianotti Trophy the #27 Porsche was driven by the later world champion Dani Gonza-lez and Francesc Reyes. The #2 Corvette and the Gesipa Porsche 917 were driven by Patrice Dohogne and Yves Welter jr.
At the 2005 Franco Gianotti Trophy the #25 N.A.R.T. Ferrari 512S Coda Lunga was driven by Martin Borch, the #30 Gesipa Porsche 917K by Brazil's Bruno di Dotto. With the #7 Owens Cornering Corvette L88 Brazil's Marcelo Triginelli won the 2005 World Championship for Amateurs. The #3 Porsche 917LH, driven by Martin Borch, finished in round #3 as sixteenth on thirty cars.  With the #25 N.A.R.T. Ferrari 512S Coda Lunga Borch finished earlier as eighteenth on thirty at the first round of the 2005 Gianotti Trophy. Stephan Wiesel himself was absent.
