19th Model Car World Championship

Nov 2-4, Mechelen (B)

The 19th Model Car World Championship will be organised this year on a brand new Steve Ogilvie MTT track. There will be two warm-up races (the traditional Benelux Cup and the Model Car EuroNats) followed by the 10th Mello Yello Worlds for Kids & Amateurs and the 19th Model Car 124 Worlds. Except for the warm-up races, contested with 1/24th 2007 SuperGT cars and 1999 JGTC cars  the Worlds and the Mello Yello will be contested with Nissan R34 Super GT cars at scale 1/24th. All cars should be equipped with a handout ProSlot motor and handout rear tyres. The two warm-up races count for the Franco Gianotti Trophy.
New is that the races are OPEN for any entrant having confirmed his  entry by e-mail. 70 racers from more than 20 different nations confirmed their entry. The Mello Yello race is only open for kids born later than March 1988 and for amateurs having won never more than 25 IOC points. At the 19th Model Car Worlds, where amateurs & kids are allowed, the 8 highest ranked model car racers among the entrants will be directly placed for the Semis. All others have to compete for the 8 other places in an 8 x 4 minutes race. Entry fee at the warm-up races is € 25.00 per race. Entry fee at the Worlds is € 50.00. There is no entry fee at the Mello Yello Race.
Race directors will be  Bob Demeyer and Jean-Marie Tillen. Race comments by JPVR. Upon arrival all racers receive an IMCA t-shirt with their IOC-number and their name. There is no racing without.
The racers will be hosted in Hotel Gulden Anker.
The brand new track, imported from Canada, will be installed in Zaal "De Posthoorn" at walking distance (2 minutes) from the hotel. Meche-len is a city with 75,000 inhabitants half-way Brussels and Antwerp, direcly connected by train to the Brussels Airport (at 15 miles). There will be free practice on Friday from 8am to 4pm. The warm-up races (Benelux Cup & EuroNats) will be contested on Friday & Saturday, the Mello Yello and the 19th Worlds on Saturday & Sunday. Price per night for a double room is € 75.00 (that's a fair € 37.50 per racer). Address: Hotel "Gulden Anker" Brusselsesteenweg 2, Mechelen. Phone: + 32 (0)15-42.25.35 - Fax: + 32 (0) 15-42.34.99. Click here for the attribution of the rooms over all entrants. Address "Feestzaal De Posthoorn" Brusselsesteenweg 49, Mechelen. The race location is just before the church. Doors open on Friday 7am. Useless to show earlier. Nobody will be allowed around the track earlier.

HOTEL & RACE LOCATION

THE TRACK: BRAND NEW STEVE OGILVIE MTT

IMPORTANT: Controllers are plugged in by alligator clips! Trigger = BLACK, Brake = RED, Power = WHITE NOTE: TRACK IS POSITIVE WIRED

The track is an improved copy of the very technical MTT track we used earlier at the 1987 IMCA Worlds in Toulouse (F). Original design was made by the late Michel Thoumieu from France in co-operation with Gérard Caupène (F). It's a difficult track, being completely new for everybody (except for Giovanni Montiglio who raced on an MTT in 1987 and for Chris Radisich and Fred Hood who raced earlier at Lee Gilbert's MTT track in the States).
The track has been built by Brian Crossbie (CDN) of Steve Ogilvie Tracks in Canada. It's his best creation ever, fully worthy for a true World Championship. Total length is 41 metres. The track fits in a surface of 7m by 12m. There will be excellent power and a perfect lap counting system. In the race location there will be 70 working tables. Catering will be done by "De Posthoorn".
None of the racers will be allowed to do the smallest technical scrutineering. Technical control will be in hands of IMCA's race director and his assistants, being all non-racers. Situations as last year in Barcelona, where Dutch racers found it necessary to control the cars of their opponents, will be absolutely excluded.
The Canadian MTT track will arrive in Belgian by ship on October 27. Set-up will be done by Geert Mertens and his assistants on October 30. The track will be broken in on all lines by "Piki" and myself, both no entrants. Nobody of the racers will be allowed in the race location before Friday 8am. Useless to insist earlier, the doors will remain closed.
After the event the track will be shipped to Aarschot near to Brussels, where it will be permanently installed in a splendid room of 364m². It will only be used for international top events. A later equipment for the DAVIC system is still to be studied. [JPVR]

A GOOD ADVISE:  If you wish avoiding to be disillusioned, then keep two things in mind. (1) You'll race on a difficult track where top racers can easily make the difference. (2) The competition level is very high since all the best racers of the world will be present. Dreaming from a main final in the 19th Worlds is hardly allowed for a dozen of racers. More important for rookies will be there ranking at the Mello Yello. And even there competition will be though.
