On Franco Gianotti |
 |
December 5, 2007 - This year the 4th Franco Gianotti went over two rounds: the 19th
Benelux Cup and the 14th IMCA EuroNats. In both races
there were two racers per car and there were separate standing
for racers contesting the series witk 2007 Auto-bacs Super GT
cars and for racers contesting the series with 1999 JGTC cars.
By finishing in the top 10 at the Autobacs 2007 races or at the 1999
JGTC races the racers of those cars won res. 20, 15, 12, 10, 8,
6, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point(s). The Franco Gianotti
Trophy is organised since 2003. Franco Gianotti (I) was one
of the best scale- and model car racers of his generation. Owner of
an own factory he passed away on October 23, 2002, when, on doing
some repairs on the roof of his factory he made a deadly fall
through the roof. His two lungs were punctured. He lived still
during 90 minutes in presence of his wife Corinna (also one of the
best scale racers during the mid 1980s), but no type of surgery
could help him. He had two lovely daughters.
The first round of
the Gianotti Trophy is always started with one minute of silence for
all former slotracers having passed away. Among them Craig Landry
(USA), Tim Murphy (CDN), Michel
Blanchet (F), Hans-Peter Sutter (CH), Juanma de
Torres (E), Philippe Thibault (F), Herman
Helskens (B), Marco d'Amato (I), Werner Grund (D), Ricardo Felauto (ARG),
James C. Hollabaugh (USA), Eric Errthum (USA), Ray Nunes (CDN),
Claes Törnfeldt (S), Denny Tindall (USA), Peter Pancke (D), Thomas
Sasse (D), Oliver Beeck (D), Jan Groos (NL), "Smette" (B), and
many others I should not had forgotten. Some of those great racers
must have been very alone in their last day, because five of them
committed suicide. Why we were not there with a last good word of
hope? Except for the German racers Pancke, Sasse, and Beeck, and for the American racers Tindall and
Errthum, all others were in the past regular entrants of IMCA Nats.
This year we'll had special attention for our good friend Juanma
de Torres (E), who passed away this winter in a motor
bike accident. At the 2006 Worlds in Barcelona he was one of the
favourites, but unfortunately he was one of the victims of Tamar's
sudden impulse to sanction everybody who was too low in clearance.
Junama however was only too low due to a race accident. After his
disqualification he promised to take revenge in 2007. But there is
no more room for revenge now. I feel guilty for it. [JPVR] |

Franco Gianotti and his
wife Corinna, here on a pic from the 1985 24 hour race
at Uden (NL) where they finished as best GT-racers. In
1988 they won the Endurance Worlds in Chicago. |

CUP - MECHELEN (B), November 2, 2008 |
|
YOURI VAN
ROSSEM & PHILIP KREMER WIN |
|
THE 19TH BENELUX CUP - At the end of the first day it was time for
the first warm-up race. Here Philip Kremer pulled away from the
rest of the field, taking during the first segment a full lap on Michael
Niemas and on Nick de Wachter. All others followed already at two laps
or more. During the second segment De Wachter could undo his arrears, so
that Philip Kremer/Youri van Rossem and Nick de Wachter had both 71
laps, followed at one la^p by Ralph Seif, at two by Miskolci/Szalai and
at three by Niemas/Christophe Kremer. In the two following segments
Philip and Youri realised both 37 laps, taking one lap more on
Niemas/Christophe Kremer and three laps on De Wachter/Nelwan. During the
second half of the race Philip and Youri had not the smallest problem to
conserve their advantage. Eventually they won the race with two laps
over De Wachter/Nelwan, three over Niemas/Christoph Kremer. During the
last segment Montiglio/Seif could pass Miskolci/Szalai to take the
fourth place. Biggest surprise came from Tamar Nelwan. Sibnce
team mate Nick did the four first stints, Tamar had to do the four last.
Instead of loosing field on Philip and Youri, he succeeded to take one
lap back, after one of the best performances in his racing career.
Among the amateurs, driving 1999 JGTC cars, Haug/Wennerberg and
Kuipers/Van
Gool were fastest away, taking after two segments one lap on Huys/Van
Campenhout and Osu/Hernandez. During the third segment the Norwegians
lost six laps on technical woes, whilst Kuipers lost three laps on Huys.
That means that Kristof Huys/Björn van Campenhout were the new leaders.
Fola Osu/Oscar Hernández were second at two laps. During the five
following seggments Huys and Van Campenhout could maintain their
advantage over Osu/Hernández, whilst the others were loosing ground. At
the finish Huys/Van Campenhout had always two laps over Osu/Hernández.
Haug/Wennerberg were third at nine laps. Cuppens/Bartlett passed Kuipers/Van
Gool for the fourth place. |

15th EUROPEAN
CHAMPIONSHIP MODEL CAR RACING - MECHELEN (B), November 3, 2008 |
|
NICK DE WACHTER
& TAMAR NELWAN WIN |
|
THE 15TH EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP MODEL CAR RACING - The race started
at 7am with "Gugu" missing the start. Four racers went out at the
lead in the Autobacs Super GT class: Nick de Wachter, Philip Kremer and
Josef Miskolci. After two segments they noted each 70 laps. During the
third segment team mates Brian Saunders (with Nurkkanen) and Christoph
Kremer (with Niemas) came one lap short so that Philip Kremer/Youri
van Rossem and De Wachter/Nelwan were setting the pace. On
Seif's car the motor seemed dead. At mid race both teams took a second
lap, whilst Miskolci/Szalai could pass Nurkkanen/Saunders. During
the fifth segment Youri deslotted a couple of times, loosing one lap on
Tamar Nelwan (in great shape). They could maintain their second position
until the one but last segment, when Youri (no sleep at all) was
nowhere, loosing four laps and now being passed by Niemas/Christophe
Kremer. Miskolci/Szalai were a strong fourth, whilst Saunders/Nurkkanen
were also passed by Francesc Reyes. During the last segment
Philip Kremer lost another two laps on red, whilst Niemas could not undo
his four lap arrears on Nick de Wachter/Tamar Nelwan and his team
finishes as second ahead over the team of Youri and Philip. At
the 1999 JGTC class both Fola Osu and Kristof Huys had a horrible start,
loosing res. five and four laps on Borge Haug. During the third segment
Huys looses seven laps on Fola Osu and is definitively out for a second
win. At mid-race Haug/Wennerberg are still strong leaders with
Raymond Kuhn/Patrick Blondiau following at only one lap and Osu/Hernández
at four laps. After having lost a rear spoiler Huys/Van Campenhout
are twelve laps down. During the second half of the race Osu/Hernández
seriously increase speed. With one last segment to go they come in the
lead lap. The last segment they not only pass Haug/Wennerberg for the
first place, but even succeed to double them two more times. So Osu/Hernández
are the souvereign winners, followed at three laps by Wennerberg/Haug
and at six laps by Blondiau/Kuhn. Huys/Van Campenhout finish as fourth,
two small segments ahead over Cuppens/Bartlett finishing as
fifth. Tom Ooms and Gert Klinge take the sixth position. |

IMCA'S 9th NATIONS CUP IN 2008 |
|
The Nations Cup has been created to promote social contacts among
slot-racers. Indeed, slot-racing is too much an individual sport
where international friendship could be better. In 2008 IMCA
organises the Nations Cup for the 9th consecutive year. There will
be 19 national teams at the start with Japan as new comer. At the Nations Cup only the three best racers of each team at each
race can win points. Belgium won the Nations Cup three times,
Holland twice, Czechia and Germany once as can be seen
here. This year team
Belgium A will be much stronger now that "Piki" van Rossem
will make his come-back. In the past "Piki" won more than 60 per cent
of all points having been won by the Belgian team. Germany, Holland,
Italy
and Spain A are now the top-favourites to win the 2007 Nations Cup.
At the Concourse Worlds the 10 best ranked racers win res.
20, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point for their national team.
At the Benelux Cup racers of the cars having finished among
the top-10 in their class (Autobacs Super GT and JGTC) win res. 10,
7.5, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.5, 1 and 0.5 points. The same points system is
maintained for the IMCA EuroNats (the second warm-up race).
At the Mello Yello Worlds for Amateurs & Kids the 10 first
ranked racers win for their team res. 30, 22.5, 18, 15, 12, 9, 6,
4.5, 3 and 1.5 points. At the IMCA 124 Model Car World
Championship the 10 first win for their nation res. 40, 30, 24,
20, 16, 12, 8, 6, 4 and 2 points. |
