NOTE: Only two BMW M1 Group 5
works cars were
built. One of them was completely destroyed at Brands Hatch in 1980. It
was BMW's intention to build several, but end 1980 the CSI of the FIA (once
more) decided in its typical dictatorial way that Group 5 cars should,
up from 1980, be derived from series street cars made on ... at least
400 copies. Unfortunately not 400 copies of the street version BMW M1
were sold at that moment. So BMW Motorwerk decided to stop the project.
The other BMW M1 Group 5 was raced at the 1981 DRM by Hans-Joachim Stück.
The car was 850bhp strong and accelerated from 0-100 kph in 2"9.
Compared to its direct rivals - the Porsches 935 - the BMW M1 Group 5
was too heavy. Nevertheless it won the most important round of the 1981
DRM: the 200 Meilen von Nürmberg. Earlier the a covert former Group 4
BMW M1 won the prestigious
Nürburgring 1000-kms. That race was stopped after 17 laps (instead of
the scheduled 44) due to damages of the track. |

LANCIA BETA MONTECARLO

NOTE 1: Model has been made by Harald
Uhl and comes with three decal sets, one of them being those of "Fruit
of the Loom". In the 1981 DRM the 1.4t Lancia, 400 bhp strong, was raced
under those colours. The car won two rounds in Div 2. Later a similar
car, but now in the Martini Team colours, won the Watkins Glen 6 hours,
ahead of all Div 1 cars having double horsepower.

LANCIA BETA MONTECARLO

NOTE : In 2000 Japan's Modeler's
released the nearly perfect model car version of the Lancia Beta
Montecarlo (version 1980), now with the correct proportions and lots of
fotoetch details. Unfortunately the firm went bankrupt and the model is
hard to find (on EBay, where it reached recently € 165.00). IMCA will
release next year a resin version 76mm wide in front and 84.5mm wide in
rear.

discontinued Tamiya kits in stock. The Tamiya veb page, with black
characyters on a night blue background is nearly impossible to read, but
if one prints it out the disturbing back ground colour disappears. |
