In 2006 the Franco Gianotti Trophy will be organised for the third consecutive year. Contrary
to the two previous years we'll no longer drive classic cars, but models
at scale 1/24th of actual FIA GT cars. The series will be spread
over two meetings, res. in Germany (Herzogenrath), and in Spain (Barcelona). Racers from 20 different countries will be invited. The Franco Gianotti Trophy is
organised as commemoration of the late Italian racer who died on October
23, 2002, only 47 years old. Franco Gianotti was the first and lonely
world champion in endurance racing. He won the title in Chicago (USA) in
1988 after a gruelling combat with Dan Debella (USA)/Jean Pierre van
Rossem (B) and "Gugu" Bernardino (BR)/Clithio Backx van Buggenhout (BR).
Later the endurance racing world championship was never more organised.
In 2006 the Franco Gianotti Trophy will go over 2
meetings [EEC Euregio at Herzogenrath (1 round of 24
x 30'); and the IMCA
Worlds in Barcelona (10 rounds of 8 x 5')], thus over
11 rounds in total (just as at the FIA
GT in autosport). At the first meeting 36 racers are invited to
drive 12 cars (EEC Euregio), at the second meeting again 48 racers are invited
to drive 16 cars. Cars are thus models at scale 1/24th of the real race cars seen at
the 11 rounds of the 2006 FIA GT Championship. Half of the cars are of
class GT1, other half of class GT2. There are always 3 drivers per car, never more than 3. Point's system for the driver's ranking is
quite easy. In the first round (EEC Euregio) the finishers among the top-8 in both
(separated) classes, GT1 and GT2, will win res. 5, 4, 3, 2½,
2, 2½, 1 and ½ point(s) after res. 6 and 12 segments; and 10, 8, 6, 5, 4,
3, 2, 1 after 24 segments. At all other rounds the top-8 of each
class are good for res. 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point(s). After
all rounds the points won by each racer are added. The racer with the most
points wins the 2006 Franco Gianotti Trophy. So one can win
as well the Franco Gianotti Trophy by racing a GT2 as by racing a
GT1 car. All cars will be equipped with the same handout
motor, a ProSlot Euro Mk1.0, and with the same handout rear wheels with
black sponge tyres of 27.5 x 13 mm. Gear ratio has to be 42/9 on Blue
King, 42/8 at the EEC Euregio.
Rounds 2-11 (at the Barcelona IMCA
Nats) of the Franco Gianotti
Trophy count also for the Constructor's World Championship where race
points to be won by the constructors are the same as for the racers, but
where they can win an extra of maximum 20 concourse points. Results of all 11 rounds will be communicated to the SRO,
organiser of the FIA GT Championship. We hope to come to a close
co-operation between autosport and model car racing. [JPVR] |
