THE YUKOS MODEL CAR   2004  LE MANS 24 HOURS
With the financial help of my Yukos friends (involved in FIA GT and Le Mans racing) an Endurance Nations Cup for racers of 8 European countries will be organised on December 18-19, 2004. Each nation enters 2 or 3 experts (driving LMP cars), 2 or 3 youngsters (driving GTS cars) and 2 or 3 amateurs (driving GT cars). In each of the three classes (LMP, GTS, GT) the handout cars will be assembled by the SPP/LMS of Tamar Nelwan, so that the endurance race over 24 hours (3 heats of 8 hours) can go with nearly perfect 1/24th similar model cars, assembled at the highest model standards (including decals, number shields and sun stroke). All assembled cars will be copies of race cars seen at this year's Le Mans 24 hours - among them the 16 cars having finished at the 16 first places. Invited nations are res. Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. Selections of the racers will be done by the national coaches, taking the all-time IOC-ranking in consideration on making their choice.
All cars will be raced during 24 x 20 minutes = 8 hours (with 24 cars that makes 3 heats of 8 hours = 24 hours). Time schedule was made in such way that all racers have minimum 8 hours of sleep. Nobody can do more than 4 consecutive stints (Johnny Herbert's maximum at Le Mans this year) and if there are 3 racers per car a new stints-round is only possible after the two other racers had their stint.
In each class the cars win res. 20, 15, 12, 9, 6, 3, 2 and 1 point for their nation. The nation having won most points receives € 2,250 cash (€ 250 per team member) to be divided over all racers of the winning nation. The race will be contested on the MRTU Blue King (Uden, NL) on Saturday/Sunday December 18/19 of 2004
.
Racers will receive free hotel on Friday and Saturday. There are NO entry fees. Racers under 22 years coming by plane will have their plane ticket paid by IMCA with a maximum of € 250 per ticket (only valid for Spain, Portugal and Denmark). It's a unique opportunity to attend the PERFECT model car race, being in all aspects a model car version of this year's Le Mans 24 hours. Please confirm your entry by e-mail to jppro@pandora.be by June 30, 2004. [JPVR]

A European Nations Cup in Endurance Racing
back to the real team spirit among racers of same nation
[Spain][Spain][Spain][Spain] [Spain]

We all know that slot-racing became an hyper individualistic hobby sport. Endurance racing is one of the means to cultivate a solid team spirit among racers. By organising a competition for racers of several nations, with a solid prize for the winners, team spirit is upgraded to the full one hundred per cent! In order to win the prize the three teams of the same nation (experts with their LMP1 cars, youngsters with their GTS cars and amateurs with their GT cars) have to be extremely competitive. Since all cars are assembled by real model car specialists (Tamar Nelwan, Martin Bartelmes and others) not the cars will make the difference among racers, but their racing abilities!
It's no secret that top favourite is Holland: they are racing on their own national King track and they have the best experience with actual Le Mans cars. But what to think about the German model car racers, being also involved since years in Le Mans model car racing and having an arsenal of top racers. Or what to do with Czechia, always great in competition betsween racers of several nations and having with Josef Korec, Vladimir Horky and Frantisek Poledna the best all-rounders of the world in their ranks? And then you have Spain. Let's not forget the 2000 Nations Cup at Roeselare - the last based upon endurance race principles - where the Spanish drivers could only be beaten thanks to a ...soccer tournament where Belgium collected more bonus points than Spain. And there is of course Belgium with its miracle racer 'Piki' van Rossem and with its unbeatable youngster's trio: Yves Welter jr/Gilles Dohogne/Youri van Rossem. Back after 4 years of absence is France. Can Bruno Chailleux & Cie give full evidence that France is always the great slot-racing nation it was in the past?

New is Denmark, where model car racing is booming thanks to relentless efforts by Päl Hanson and Henrik Hasager. A Le Mans 24 hour race without Britons is impossible. Portugal was already earlier seen in international model car racing and can now start with equal arms, what was not the case in the past.  Only Italy and England will be absent as great European slot-racing nations. Indeed, there are no more Italian youngsters interested in 1/24th model car racing. Salvatore Noviello - in 2001 still model car world champion - and federation president Giovanni Montiglio are unable to align three decent teams. England never answered the invitation, despite 8 mails. Moreover most Britons have no model car experience.
There can be little doubt that the Yukos 24 hours - being a superb model car version of the 2004 Le Mans 24-hours - will be the ULTIMATE MODEL CAR RACE. If the national coaches (Tamar Nelwan for Holland, dr. Günther Riehl for Germany, Josef Korec for Czechia, Francesc Reyes for Spain, JPVR for Belgium, Bruno Chailleux for France, Henrik Hasager for Denmark and Jorge da Cruz for Portugal) can allign their best racers, the Yukos 24 hours will spread the same thrill and suspense as this year's 1/1 scale Le Mans 24 hours. Impossible to forecast which team will win in LMP1, in GTS or in GT.
Let's remember the very simple point's system. The 8 first in each class (LMP1, GTS, GT) win for their nation res. 20, 15, 12, 9, 6, 3, 2 and 1 points. On Friday evening their will be a
Yukos 2004 Le Mans Quiz among the entrants. Here the 8 nations can collect bonus points: res. 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point(s). Addition of all race points + bonus points won per nation will give the winner of the Yukos Nations Cup.

CARS FOR THE YUKOS LE MANS 24 HOURS

The national teams will receive their cars 2 hours before the race. Those cars are assembled by the most experienced model car builders from Holland and Germany under supervision of Tamar Nelwan. He guarantees us that the performances of the cars will be as equal as possible per class. There will be a short list of the allowed modifications. Names of the racers per car are NOT definitive. The national coaches are still busy to contact the racers of their country. Only if the racer's list is definitive we'll release the info to the press. May we ask that the national coaches can return pics of all their selected racers, so that we can add those pics next to those of the effective racers at the Le Mans 24 hours (you'll find those effective racers by clicking on the cars mentionned below).

WHO CAN ENTER THE YUKOS LE MANS 24-HOUR RACE?
Each country has its national coach. Coaches are: JPVR (Belgium), Josef Korec (CZ), Henrik Hasager (DK), Bruno Chailleux (F), dr. Günther Riehl (D), Tamar Nelwan (NL), Francesc Reyes (E), and Jorge Batista da Cruz (PT). Those national coaches are totally free to choice their youngsters and amateurs. Their 2 or 3 experts should be selected by preference  out of the first column on the added table - no one of the experts being allowed to be younger than 22 years. Numbers before the racer's names in this table are their actual rank in the all-time IOC-list for model car racers (if a number is higher than 300 it means that the racer is NOT in the Model Car IOC-list). Amateurs are racers older than 22 years having obtained during their racing career less than 8 points on the IOC-list. National coaches are asked to contact the racers of their country and to communicate us the names of their selected racers by June 30 (e-mail to jppro@pandora.be).

At the Yukos Social Evening  in Uden (Friday December 17)

THE YUKOS LE MANS QUIZ ON FRIDAY EVENING

On Friday evening all entrants come together in Zaal Verhoeven (Markt 22, Uden) for a social evening, offered by JPVR as his definitive farewell to slot-racing. That evening the Miss Yukos Tropic Election (cf. further) and a Le Mans Quiz will be organised. That evening there will be free drinks and free sandwiches for all entrants. The Quiz will go between the 8 nations present at the Yukos 24 hours. Each national coach designs one quizer among the members of his team. If the quizer gives a correct answer this is good for 2 quiz points. If he is not sure about his answer he can contact the other members of the team. If they can give the correct answer the nation wins 1 quiz point instead of 2. All obtained quiz points per nation are added and a ranking per nation will be made. The winning nation collects 10 bonus points, the second 8 bonus points; the following nations win res. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 bonus points.
The Yukos Le Mans Quiz will be restricted to info over the 3 cars raced by each nation: who are the drivers, what's their nationality, what were their best performances in racing, what position on the grid, worst and best position during the race, final result, class result, remarkable race facts, etc. Most of this info can be found by clicking on the car's name  in the above entry list.  For a full report on the 2004 Le Mans 24 hours click here. Questions will be trans-lated in French, Dutch and German. A neutral quiz master will receive all questions - kept secretly - a couple of minutes before the start of the Yukos Le Mans Quiz. All additional info (e.g. concerning drivers) can be found at:
http://www.lemans.org/univers_sport/24hauto/live/team/ifc/engages_fr.hTML
If you click here on the different cars you'll find links to the former performances of all racers. Interesting too is the La Sarthe web site

YUKOS GIRLS CAN WIN 3 TO 6 PROFESSIONAL PHOTO SESSIONS IN PARIS STUDIOS

THE MISS "YUKOS TROPIC" ELECTION

Famous at the Le Mans 24 hours are the Hawaiian Tropic Girls. Thus, concluded model car freak Tamar Nelwan, there should at least be Tropic Girls at the Le Mans Model Car Event. His idea was to let them marshal the race. It's sure that it would be attractive for TV, much more interested in nice boobies than in little cars. But it seems not reasonable to give marshalling in hands of totally unexperienced girls, seeing perhaps for the first time in their life a slot-car. IMCA rules on marshalling are stringent enough that nothing will be irregular if we let it be done by the racers themselves. However, since several national coaches had no objections at all against marshalling beauties, we found an intermediary solution, nl. to let the YUKOS TROPIC GIRLS marshal the first hour (assisted by experienced racers) and to let them marshal the last hour alone. Later came the idea to rank the girls following their marshal capacities and to give the winner a solid price. Eventually that resulted in the idea to organise a MISS TROPIC ELECTION.
At a press conference with the local media such election will be announced. There will be a preselection (by mail), two weeks prior to the race, in such way that 20 candidates will be maintained. Preselection will be made by Nathalie Groos, a former international photo model living actually in Uden. The 20 preselected candidates will be present in typical "Hawaiian Tropic" suits (but in the white/leaf green/orange colours of the Yukos logo) at the social evening on Friday evening at Dans & Partycentrum Verhoeven (Neringstraat Oost 25, 5401 GM Uden). The election will be guided by Viviane Audenaert, famous for similar events. At Dans & Partycentrum Verhoeven there will place for 250 persons and entry will be €12.50 per person (except for the candidates). Entry encludes one free bottle of champaign per table plus free sandwiches.
Candidates receive Yukos clothing and Nike shoes for free. A mixed jury with three professionals (quoting for half of all points) and the eight national coaches (quoting for the other half of the poits) will judge the girls upon two criterions: beauty (counting for 50 of 100 points) and verbal expression (counting for 35 of 100 points). At the end of the social evening the results of this selection will be unveiled and the 10 best ranked YUKOS TROPIC GIRLS  will be maintained for the final round on Saturday. Place of the action is now the MRTU location, Parklaan 2, Uden. Here the 10 selected YUKOS TROPIC GIRLS will have to marshal the model cars of the Yukos 24-hours race during the first hour on Saturday and during the last hour on Sunday. After the race the national team coaches will quote the 10 finalists on their marshalling capacities (counting for 15 of 100 points). At the prize giving ceremonial the winning MISS YUKOS TROPIC receives € 1,000 and 3 to 6 free professional photo sessions in a Paris studio with the top fashion photographer Jacques Polony. The 9 other finalists win a Nokia GSM and two bottles of Moët & Chandon champagne. It's good to remember that at the 2002 Eupen 24 hours organiser Yves Welter sr already organised a miss election and that it had a great press after the race].  [Note: Candidates should send three pics to jppro@pandora.be, plus a short curri-culum mentionning which languages are fluently spoken. Minimum age of the candidates is 16 years, maximum age 26 years. Nationality is without importance. Each national team is allowed to enter one candidate of the own country. She too should send 3 pics + the fluently spoken languages + short curriculum to jppro@pandora.be.] [JPVR]

E-MAIL REACTIONS AND JPVR'S ANSWERS

SALVATORE NOVIELLO (ITALY)

Sorry but really I don't undersntand WHY italy is not invited at the Yukos 24-hour Race?????????????????????????????
I only remember that in 2001 Italy was 2nd at the Nations Cup at the same position of Belgium! In 2002 Italy was 3rd at the Nations Cup.....
Seen over the last 3 years, 2001-2003, I'm in 10th position in your world ranking, however I have no time to race..... I'm running only at IMCA races....
Sorry but I don't undersntand why you didn't invited Italy in this race?????
Since 20 years I appreciate races with same possibilities for all racers, and now you forget to invite me???????????????????????
Sorry I don't understand!
This is really the  lonely posibility for me and for the other Italian drivers to proof to the whole world that on other than IMCA races the car is more important than driver!
I have no time to prepare my cars (because I have serious problem with my wife, she wants to be in holiday instead of seeing me working all days....; in fact I asked to Francesc Reyes to prepare for me and for Daniele (Malangone) our cars for the upcoming IMCA Nats. But I LOVE RACES! Please reply, I'm very disappointed!

WHAT DID ITALY FOR MODEL CAR RACING THE LAST 20 YEARS?

Since 1984 I defend the viewpoint that slot-racing can only recover if it returns to its real roots: that of hardbodied model cars mounted on a metal chassis and equipped with realistic wheels, just as were the models released by Cox, Monogram, K&B, Revell, Tamiya and mony others during the boom of the golden 1960s. Since 1984 I invited at nearly all my international races Italians. But tell me, what Italy has done for the promotion of model car racing during the last 20 years? Just a fucking nothing. No, they stayed with their hybride ES32, 132F1, being impossible attempts to combine (G7, G27) speed with scale. And look were Italy is now. In the mid 1980s Italy had the largest number of slot-racers of Europe. Now, 20 years later, Italy has no more racers. It still needs the good old guys such as Paolo Trigilio, Giovanni Montiglio, Giuseppe Rudilosso or you to let believe that slot-racing is still alive in Italy. And don't speak me of the famous 'Plastiche', that little 1/32nd cars, style Slot-It, mounted on a plastic chassis, allowing nearly no tuning. Slot-It, Ninco, Fly, SCX, etc. are just toy cars. But ask typical model car racers such as Dieter Jens, Thomas Spicker, Martin Bartelmes, Tamar Nelwan, Philip de Vries, etc. how long the preparation of a good 1/24th model car takes: as long as the preparation of a G7 or an ES24. Italy has no tradition on preparing model cars. Except for you and Montiglio, Italy has no more racers able to drive modern model cars. But at the Yukos 24-hour a national team needs 9 racers, not 2. Where you count find the others? Where 3 youngsters? So you understand! [JPVR]

MARC JOYEUX (FRANCE)

Mon petit Jean-Pierre,

A bientôt,

 Marc

POURQUOI PAS MISS FRANCE?
Tu trouves que Jeanne d'Arc était sexy? Moi j'aurais préferré Mireille Darc alors.
[JPVR]

FRANCESC REYES (SPAIN)
Hello Jean Pierre

I see in the 24 Yukos report on the web that Italy don't come but a good driver like Salvatore Noviello want to show. For the Spanish team will be a pleasure to count with  Noviello & Co in our team, if you don't have any  incovenience.

Best regards

Francesc Reyes

NOVIELLO THIRD RACER ON SPANISH AUDI R8?
We wish indeed to see the model car world champions of the five last years at the start of the Yukos 24-hour race. So Noviello should be one of the entrants. Yesterday we proposed him to drive the #5 Audi R8 together with 'Piki' and me. The problem was then that another world champ, Geert Mertens (B), should have to move to the #15 of the Dutch team with Tamar Nelwan and Willem Kloppenburg. But if you can convince Salvatore to join the Spanish team, let it know: it should be a more elegant solution: then the four Audis should be driven by the best model car racers with for the Frenchies the rather difficult task to split the Audi four, just as was done at this year's 1/1 Le Mans 24-hours. So I have no objections against a trio Reyes/Torres /Noviello on the #8 Audi R8. [JPVR]
